I wake up next to Dominique in his room. His arms are wrapped around me almost in a protective way. My head is against his chest. I smile as I let the warmth cover me. I have my arms wrapped around him too. My hand over his bandage, my chest hurting slightly from the mess that has been made in my love life.
"Good morning beautiful." I smile at his husky morning voice.
"Morning." I look up at him. His piercing eyes watching me with a lazy smile on his lips.
"I need to get the kids ready for pre-school." I say in a small groan.
Dominique chuckles and pulls me closer. Not letting me get up.
"Why don't you give them the day off. We can go to the pools and have a nice day the four of us." I smile and blush, thinking about how much he loves my children. That's the most important thing to a parent who is estranged from the other parent. To find a new partner who will love and protect your kids like their own. I've never had any doubt the Dominique loves them.
"I don't know." I groan.
"Come on. I'll make pancakes for breakfast and we can pack a picnic." I smile at the sound of such a lovely day.
"Okay. You win." I say. He laughs and brings his lips down to mine.
We get up together. I wrap a sheet around myself and watch as he slips his briefs on and heads to his ensuite. I frown at the site of scars on his back that are consistent with multiple years of beltings.
"Dom." I call. He turns to me with a soft smile. I can't bring myself to ask.
"Hm?" He questions.
"I'm gonna go wake the kids." I say the first thing that comes to mind.
He smiles.
"Okay." I sigh. I want to know what they are from. Who hurt him like that.
But at the same time we've just started...whatever this is and it's not my place to ask such personal questions so quickly.
I walk quickly to my room and get into the shower. As a mother, you tend to get use to having quick showers so that's exactly what I did. A quick shower and quickly got changed in time to get my kids up before they get themselves up and start to destroy each other or the house.
"Alright. Come on. Jo we get." Marianna goes to the bathroom and does her business like the big girl she is while I pick up Jackie and take him tommy bathroom to do his business before helping him get changed.
"Where's daddy?" Marianna asks once she's out of her room and into the kitchen with me and Jackie.
"Daddy's gonna be gone for a few days honey." She frowns.
"Why?" She asks.
"Because daddy was naughty so he's been sent to the naughty corner for a while." Dominique says as he walks in.
"What did daddy do?" Marianna asks.
"That's a conversation for when you're a bit older." I say softly as I kiss her forehead.
Dominique comes to my side and wraps his arm around my waist as he uses his other to take a piece of the toast I had just spread Vegemite on.
"That's mine." I pout. He just gives me a cheeky smile.
"What's mine is yours." He says softly. I smile and roll my eyes.
"Alright, we're going to go to the pools. So after breakfast we will get ready." The kids look at us eagerly.
"I'm still making pancakes." Dominique says. I laugh and shake my head. He's already had toast but he still wants pancakes.
"Alright go ahead Jordan Ramsey." I say laughing.
He turns and starts to get the ingredients out while I sit next to Jackie watching as Marianna pesters him to help. He doesn't seem to mind.
"Alright come on kids. Let's go get ready." I say as they both finish up their pancakes.
They run along to their rooms with me following behind them. Dominique goes to get changed into his bathing suit while I change Jackie and help Marianna do hers up.
"Mummy, are you and daddy fighting?" Marianna asks as I do her swimmers up." I sigh.
"Yeah, we are but it's nothing to do with you or your brother." She nods.
"Can I ask a question?" I smile and nod my head.
"Can Dominique be our new daddy?" I look at her shocked.
"Why would you want that?" I ask her.
"Daddy makes you sad all the time. And dom doesn't." I look at her utterly shocked.
This little girl of mine has been observing far more details of the world around her than I had anticipated.
"Honey it's not for you to worry about." I assure her. She just frowns.
"I love you mummy. You always do to look out for those you love. I love you and I want you to be happy cos when you're sad I'm sad." The only response I have to her is to wrap my arms around her in a hug. This little girl has no idea the impact her words have on me.
"Come on honey. Let's go out to Dominique." I say as I pick Jackie up and hold her hand.
"Ready?" Dominique asks as he takes Jackie in his arms. I smile and nod.
Hopefully I can use today to get out of my own head and my worries. To push that all aside and have fun with my kids and with Dominique.
Dom puts jackie in the car as I buckle Marianna up. He glances my way and smiles. Once we sit in the front together, Dom driving since he is choosing which pools. He takes my free hand in his and starts the car, toward said destination.
