Walking back to the car, with two new puppies in a pet travel cage, and an overly excited Mariana.
Dominique helped aromas into the back with the pet cage that had the puppies in it. I turn to Mason and see he's giving me the 'what did you do' look. I roll my eyes at him and wait for him to start the car.
When we got home, Dominique went to his office while Jackie and Mariana play with the puppies.
"Why didn't you text me and talk to me about this?" I roll my eyes at Mason as I sit down on our bed.
"Because our daughter didn't want to separate them. She said that is was like separating her and Jackie. She was heartbroken and it wasn't that much money. Her being happy is my first priority and I don't have to run everything by you!" He purses his lips and crosses his hands over his chest as he waits for me to finish.
"You can't be mad at me for making her happy." I say and wait for him to respond.
"Are you done?" I nod my head.
"I don't care that you got two instead of one. I care about the fact that I had no say. I mean I don't even care about how much it was. I do care that she's happy and I'm always happy that she's happy, but I would have liked to have been at least included into the discussion about this." I roll my eyes as I pull off my shoes and listen to him.
"You would have if you had come with us in there but you chose to stay in the car." He looks at me with an incredulous look.
"Because Jackie was asleep!" I stand up to be level with him.
"And I was thinking of Mariana." I bite back. He sighs angrily and walks into the connected bathroom, it doesn't take long until I hear the shower going.
I sit back down and put my head in my hands. We're happy...most of the time but then things like me not asking him if I can do this or that with our children sets him off. I get that he wants to be part of the decision making process, but I shouldn't have to feel as though I have to ask him permission.
I'm brought out of my thoughtful daze by a clearing of the throat by the door. I look up to see Dominique.
"Yes?" I ask politely.
"I can come back later if you like." I give a reassuring smile and bake my head.
"No it's fine." He nods his head and sits next to me with his iPad in his hand.
"We have this much left for her birthday budget. Now I've been looking around and I think I can get everything she wants, the purple theme, the sparkles and sorts." I smile up at him and nod.
"Thank you Dominique." I say sincerely. He smiles back and nods his head before heading to the door.
Before going out, Dominique turns to me.
"For the record, I think he's wrong and you shouldn't have to justify yourself or feel guilty about making your daughter happy." Before I could reply, he walks out.
