Giving you what you're begging for...
Giving you what you say I need...
I don't want any settled scores...

I just want you to set me free...

Rory~

"YOU'RE like a little rock in my shoe... I shake my foot, I think I've gotten it out, then dang! There it is!" Sheriff Peterkin said as she entered her office, where JJ and I were sitting inside on the chairs before her desk.

"Maybe, watch where you're steppin'..." JJ suggested, playing it cool as he rested his head back on his raised arms behind his head, tipping his chair a little back as he sat pretty leaned back.

"That little rock on the back of my heel makes me want to crush it," Peterkin deadpanned as she slammed a file down on her desk, eyeing the both of us.

"Okay," JJ shrugs.

I had been pretty silent the entire time it took to get us here and then when Shoupe locked up JJ and I in separate jail cells.

"I'll be getting back to you, in a second Rory...after I deal with him," Peterkin informs as she sits down in her chair and opens the file.

"Whatever," I shrugged as I stay leaned back on my chair, arms crossed, one leg over the other as I stared off ahead with a straight poker face. Feeling nothing but anger wanting to explode out of me.

Peterkin sighs as she starts to recite things from the file. "Unlawful discharge of a firearm. Trespass on protected habitat. Felony destruction of property." She counted as she looked at JJ. "All in the last two weeks, you're on the roll, chief," she commented.

"You keep forgetting I was with him in all these crimes," I chimed in, my voice sharp and cold as I gave the most fakest-smile to Peterkin.

"I know that you are his partner in crime, Rory... but we know how to differentiate the influence of another from the willingness to do the crime by yourself," Peterkin stated, making me roll my eyes.

"I did all that shit, dead-ass sober, Peterkin... no influences of substance or from JJ here.." I said, shrugging.

She sighs deeply, looking at me with a pointed look. I could feel JJ's stare on me as well, he was probably frowning, confused with my change in behaviour.

Hell, I myself am confused by why I am so angry. There's a nagging, triggering feeling, in the back of my mind...I just can't seem to put my finger on it and figure it out.

"If you think I'm gonna rat anybody out, you got the wrong idea," JJ replied back casually, diverting the conversation to him again.

"I know your teen brain doesn't like to think ahead, but I want you to come with me to uncharted territory," She countered back. I frown at her words as I take a glance at JJ beside me to see him frowning as well. "The future," Peterkin stated, clearing out both of our confusion. "How you gonna feel six months from now, sittin' in juvenile prison in Wadesboro?" she asked.

I clench my jaw as I stared ahead when silence fell and JJ had nothing to reply back to her. She proceeded with pulling something from the file and putting two papers in front of JJ and I.

"You guys know these two?" She asked as I looked down on the table to see mugshot pictures of those 'burly' square grouper men who broke into our house.

JJ and I stayed quiet as I keep staring at the pictures. Peterkin stands up and rounds the table to look at us. "My question was, do you two know these men?" She pressed.
