I return to my castle and sat down in my bedroom feeling exhausted. Fighting fire with ice can be quite the energy consumer.
I thought about that mysterious girl, Merida.
I know this may sound cliche but I'm going to say it anyway - I think I feel the way I'm supposed to feel about men towards her. Ever since she bumped into me I was awe struck. I tried to hide with through acting as 'her royal highness Elsa.' You'd think I'm brave, that I'm responsible and unafraid. It's all an act.
Merida was the most beautiful girl i had ever laid eyes on. So exotic. That accent, that hair, those eyes, her free spirit, her rebellious nature. It reminded me of my own independent persona.
Is this normal? No. It's not normal. Not normal at all.
I shook my head, shook the feeling off. "conceal don't feel don't let them know," I whispered to myself. Conceal don't feel don't let them know.
My sister Anna walks into the room looking around.
"Hi Elsa," she says. "My wedding is in twenty five days, I was wondering ... would you like to walk me down the aisle?" She asked.
"Of course I would Anna, who else will?" I laughed. Anna's eyes lit up as she stepped toward me. Then she pressed her two hands around my temple and stared at me like I had grown a third eye.
"Rosy cheeks. Day dreamy face. That expression. The way your sitting. Shut up. You met a guy!
"Anna I am not in love," I corrected her trying to convince myself it was true.
"Elsa it's alright, so tell me who's the lucky man?" she leaned closer.
"Anna it's none of your business." I faced the other way as frost piled around my periphery, floating above my head like rain drops.
* * *
Anna and I spent the evening preparing and planning for her wedding.
"Kristoff and I will marry in this church. It's perfect!" Anna thought to herself.
She walked around the area measuring and muttering on about decorations.
When Anna left me alone I evacuated the castle, into the woods, past the snowy mountains and into the home of the rock trolls. "Pabbie?"
The King of Rock trolls rolled right toward me, concerned dawning on his face.
"Hello Elsa." Pabbie looked up at me.
"Hello Pabbie. I... I don't mean to disturb you, do you mind if I ask about something?"
"Of course. Anything Elsa."
"I would like information on my sister Theodora. How can we stop her. She wants to kill me. She wants to take over our kingdom, and Anna was here wasn't she. You told her something."
The rock king creased his eyebrows.
"Your sister Anna asked me the same question. Indeed," he said. "Many many years ago your parents had come to me. They were looking for a way to conceal Theodora's power. During that time all I could see in the girl was evil. Great evil, destruction... there was no other way but to kill the girl. Your parents sent her to another kingdom far far away."
"We cant just .... kill her! Please tell me there's another way. Some sa-" before I could finish the Rock king had pressed a solid finger on my lip;
"There is one way. Yes. Only the saviour can free her from this evil... If only I had figured this out back then." Pabbie touched my arm.
"Merida. Why not me? And why didn't Anna tell me any of this!" I leaned.
"Elsa my dear, when time comes. You will find your answer."
What? Before I could ask more questions another rock had uncurled itself, smiling at me with endearing interest.
"This is Bulda, Kristoff's mother" Pabbie proclaimed.
"Hello there Elsa! My my so it's true what they say. You are a very beautiful queen. My daughter in law!" She hugged me tight and whispered in my ear, "Anna is one lucky girl to have a man like Kristoff." When I turned again Pabbie had disappeared. I could hear drumrolls. The rocks were beginning to go into song. The next day
Today a prince from the south sails to Arendelle. Every once in a while a Prince would sail to Arendelle to ask for my hand in marriage. My Royal escorts think I need needed an 'eligible suitor,' a King, a new heir to the throne of Arendelle. But I don't believe in marrying someone that you've just met.
I've never actually shown or been interested in any of the Prince' that regularly demand my hand in marriage.
"Now Presenting! Prince Frederic of The Southern Latvania!" The small man screamed as the prince was escorted out of the ship.
The prince had green eyes and shaggy blonde hair. He wore shoulder pads and a black mixed with red blazer that had the royal crest of Latvania embedded on it.
Handsome but nothing special, for all I know he could turn out to be just like like prince Hans, the man who almost married my sister and killed me three years ago.
The prince took my hand and kissed it.
"Good evening Your royal highness. My name is--"
"Prince Frederic of Southern Latvania," I said before he could finish.
Great.
Another Prince trying to marry their way into ruling Arendelle.
"This ones cute" I heard teenage girls giggling behind me "If I were her I would so marry him".
Prince Frederic and his men stayed for the night in the palace.
I sat on my throne right next to my sister Anna, eyeing the visitors suspiciously.
"He's gorgeous," Anna whispered in my ear "Oops I have a fiancé hehe, oh Elsa! Is he the lucky man we were talking about the other night?" Anna whispered.
I nudged Anna's arm.
"Ahem" Anna announced, loudly enough for everyone to quiet down.
"So. What brings you to our kingdom?"
"Hello Princess," said the blonde prince. "I've heard stories about Arendelle's bizarre beauty, the stories about the two sisters, Elsa's gift. I wanted to come see it all myself.
"I'm an explorer, I like exploring new kingdoms, mountains, horizons." Frederic bowed.
"Very well then." I said "You may stay in Arendelle for as long as you please. Try anything against my will and --"
"Elsa will turn you into a icicle!" Snapped Anna darkly. I shot her a look. She smiled obviously embarrassed yet holding back a laugh at the same time.
Then something cold and solid jogged past me and stood next to me.
"WHAT IS THAT!" yelled the short man that announced the arrival of Prince Mr explorer.
"Hello! I'm Olaf and I love summer."
My snow man walked past the short man and towards the prince. "Hmmm, tall, handsome oh those green eyes. He's perfect for our Elsa." Olaf turned around and winked at me, I stared at the prince feeling nothing but boredom and irritation. I crossed my legs and leaned onto the blue throne, pressing a finger on my cheek.
"Hem hem," Olaf coughed. "I have an announcement to make!" He pulled out what looked like a poster.
"Arendelle will be hosting a ball on the 4th of July. Two days time to be exact! The Queen and Princess will be attending of course, the whole kingdom will be invited. Thankyou for listening." Bowed Olaf.
I buried my hands in my face not looking forward to dancing with a prince. Why did I ever allow Anna to put Olaf in charge of parties and balls?
