It was a bright and sunny Sunday morning.
I sat up. Stretched my arms.
As soon as I moved I noticed strings tied around my leg. I looked up then a bucket of cold, ice cold water plunged right at my head, followed by giggling coming from underneath my bed. "HARRIS, HUBERT, HAMISH!" I yelled while untying the rope from my legs.
My three little good for nothing, trouble making, menacing brothers!
They get away with everything! Even murder!
Three little red heads popped out from under my bed then ran straight for the door. You'd think that at twelve years old they would act more mature.
"Good for nothing," I muttered, drying my curly mane of hair. As soon as I changed into my blue velvet dress I ran out of my room, down the stairs, past the dining room and into the kitchen. Mother and Father's maids had been cooking breakfast. I slid past a few maids and grabbed an apple.
"Mornin Miss Merida," a maid greeted me. "Mornin" I replied, biting the apple.Later that evening I went to the barn. My horse Angus sat there, chewing hay like a cow. I pulled out some carrots.
"Here boy I brought you some of these!"
He rocked his face against mine, knocking me over and nibbled on the carrots.
As soon as I got onto my horse, mother appeared. Eyeing me suspiciously.
"Now where are you going Merida?" Yew skipped yer transitioning Queen lessons yesterday! Don't yuh remember you will be having extra lessons?" Mom folded her arms.
"Mom! To think yewv changed! Don't ya see? I'm twenty two years old now! I'm not a child anymore! I don't need lessons" I proclaimed. "Merida. I won't be here forever, soon yew will be Queen yew have to understand how to take care of our kingdom! Yew arr not even be a proper lady yet!"
Mom grabbed my arm pulling me off Angus.
My mom had been making me balance books on my head and reciting the stories of the past king and Queens for about three hours.
"Well that's enough for today." I sat down. The books on my head collapsed onto the ground. As soon as mom left the room, I snuck out of the castle.
"Hello there Merida!" I heard a voice say. I turned around and saw dad.
"Oh Hello dad!" I replied.
"where yeh off to?" He asked
"An adventure!" I ran off.
"Have fun! he screamed.
I rode Angus past the trees into the woods, past the mountains and out of the forests.
That's when I saw it. A small blue translucent creature floating two feet above the ground.
"Willow the wisps!" I gestured towards the wisps trying to grab it, the wisp had vanished in mid air.
I'd seen one before when I was little, and several times three years ago when I had accidentally turned mother into a bear.
"Follow these wisps Angus! It will lead us to our destiny."
Angus and I travelled further than we had ever travelled.
After about three hours of wandering into the unknown, the wisp stopped appearing.
I looked around and saw nothing but ice and snow. Snowy mountains, snow covering almost everything around me. I wasn't used to such a cold climate. Then I spotted a castle. "Angus! It's another kingdom! Why would the wisps take me here?"
The wisps then appeared on the bridge, then to the entrance of the kingdom. Angus and I led ourselves ourselves in, making the wisps dissolve at every touch.
I saw a group of people all crowded around one other looking at the sky. The wisps wanted me to get past the crowd of people.
I made my way through to see what it was. A girl with brown braided pigtails stood there on the castle balcony, smiling at the crowd. I noticed the second girl. She was wearing a blue dress that fit her slim athletic figure. Her hair was icey blonde, almost white, the colour of snow. She was beautiful.
Did I just call another woman beautiful? No. It's normal to admire beauty.
I shook my head and turned towards my horse, checking that I hadn't lost him among the crowd.
"People of Arendelle!" the girl on the balcony bellowed. "Yesterday we were attacked by something ... someone. Powerful. A threat to our kingdom, " said one of the girls.
"She will return. I want you all to be aware. Please. Keep a close watch and tell me immediately if you see anything. Anything out of the ordinary."
That's why the wisps led me here! I thought to myself. To help defeat this ... villain.
"My sister Anna will be getting married next month," the girl blonde added. The audience applauded and whistled, cheering like it was the happiest thing they've heard in years.
Shortly after the two women left the balcony, the people started to leaving one by one.
I pushed my way through the crowd.
I tied Angus behind a nearby bush. "Angus yew stay here. I'm going to find out why the wisps would lead us here. Don't want to attract too much attention."
I gave Angus a pat on the head then ran along the foot path, looking around the village.
"Hi" I heard a girls voice.
I turned around and recognised her straight away. The brown haired girl with the braided pigtails, smiling straight at me. She wore a black vest with flowers decorated on it from the top and long blue skirt connected to it.
"I saw you coming in through the gateway," the girl said.
"I mean I could see everyone from that balcony. I could see almost the whole kingdom," she stretched out her hand, inviting me to give her a shake.
I shook it with grave hand and smiled.
"I'm Merida."
"Anna." she replied. "Nice to meet you Anna. What brings you to Arendelle? You look Like you're not from around here. Travel far?" the girl looked me up and down.
"Do yeh know about the wisps? Willow the wisps?"
"The wisps?" Anna shrieked. "I've read about them. They... They lead you to your fate, right?"
"Yis. I followed the wisps. They led me here," I sighed.
"Cool accent by the way! Irish, right?" Anna winked.
"It's Scottish?"
"Ah. Right. My bad." Anna blushed.
I noticed it was getting dark. As if on cue it began to rain, very heavily. It was hailing.
"Oh no. It's raining. Let's get under some shelter. You can stay in the palace until the rain stops," said Anna. "Or you can stay overnight if you want." It was as if this girl knew I would be here.
"That's... not a bad idea. Are yew sure?" Perfect! Find more wisps and more time away from mom's tedious suitor searching and Queen lessons.
"You sure can! We love having visitors around here. Except for when this one guy tried to kill my sister, took over the kingdom, and when that girl tried to burn down the kingdom." Anna scratched her head. "Do you know why I'm so interested in you?" She eyed me suspiciously with fascination.
"After my sister and I announced the news to the people of Arendelle.. The Wisps appeared, and, and led me to you... and I thought... You could be the answer to fire lady. You could be our saviour! Pabbie told me a saviour would appear, and you would help stop her!"
I stepped back a little. This girl talked way more than anyone I've ever met. The things she said were odd. Fire lady. Saviour.
That night Anna had escorted me to a room of my own. It was pink. Not my style, I was more of a green girl. It was a bit smaller than my room back at home.
Half an hour after had Anna left I peeked through the door then began to wander around the strange palace. They had many paintings on the wall of ice and snow, family portraits here and there, the furniture was more vintage than the ones at my castle back home, they even had so many clocks. Why did fate bring me here?
Oh and don't worry about Angus, he was escorted to nice barn outside.
I returned to the room shortly after. As soon as my eyes left the floor I bumped into someone.
