Running to safety

I just reread this thing and realized this chapter was a repeated version of the last one by accident. I finally began rewriting it!

Barely a moment after checking the coast, Ikor turned to Riff. 'What on earth were you thinking?!'

'What do you even mean?'

'The fucking pistol.'

Riff had to lower his adrenaline and check his hand to see that indeed, the gun he had picked up in a rush was there. 'Look, I panicked okay?'

'Alright guys, calm down,' Aoki stopped the argument. She had just set down Trek, who was holding his leg tightly. 'How about we focus on getting away right now?'

Riff agreed, 'Yeah, at least now we got something to defend ourselves with.'

Eron swallowed, 'You want to shoot him?'

'I was thinking of throwing the whole thing to slow him down but-' Riff's expression shifted as he realized, 'Now that you mentioned it...'

Then, they heard footfalls, heavy and closing in. Everyone went silent, holding their breaths. They came closer and closer before there was a defeated grunt. The man began to leave.

'Man that was close...' Eron breathed out.

Ikor poked his head outside. 'We are close enough to the hill. We might be able to make a run for the city. Or at least somewhere we can get help.'

At that, Aoki turned to look down on Trek. 'How long do you think you can go?'

'Quite a bit, I guess, with some help.' he answered.

'That will do.'

The group stood up, mentally preparing themselves. They checked the area twice before they dashed out, running as if their lives depended on it. It probably did. Trek was supported mostly by Riff and they stumbled towards the back.

'YOU!' they heard a yell from behind and immediately turned around. They couldn't see the man anymore, but he most certainly can see them. Momentarily distracted, they forgot about the hill.

Riff and Trek instantly lost their footing, stumbling like a ball down hill. The other 3 didn't run on it for long before following. In a matter of seconds, all five were at the base of the mound, just at the outskirts of the city. 

Well, that was surely... faster?

Somewhere in front of them, was a police station, and though it was not a large one, an officer outside spotted them in seconds and rushed to them.

'Good, god. What happened to you?'

That was not going to be pleasant to explain.

A long interrogation and a bunch of bandages later, the 5 of them were left waiting for their legal guardians. Each was pretty much stuck in their own head, no one bothered to start a conversation. The events of the day were... a lot to take in.

'Well...' Riff started, silence not really fitting with him. 'That was certainly something.'

'You don't say.' Eron mocked.

'That was an awful amount of arms down there.' Aoki reflected, flashing back to the hidden room.

They fell quite again, words trailing off as the adrenaline was replaced with pure exhaustion. This time, none really had the energy for the small talk.

'So...' Trek began, 'After we get ungrounded- whenever that will be- wanna hang out again?' he proposed.

'Yeah.'

'Sure thing.'

'Of course.'

Four turned to the last unheard voice. Ikor suddenly felt everyone looking at him. 'Me too?'

Riff slung an arm around the other's shoulder. 'Duh. You're on of the team now. I mean, if you'd like.'

Ikor seemed dumbfounded. He really thought for a moment they'd all just eventually move on from this day and they'd go their separate ways. After all, he was only dragged into this because of Eron's interview.

But the truth is, he liked the idea of changing up the company a bit.

'Okay, maybe.'

'Yes!' Eron cheered.

Riff put a finger on his chin in a thinking manner, 'So what if we-'

'Oh ho ho ho.' A feminine voice interrupted them from the door. 'You are in so much trouble with mom and dad.'

Riff's expression dropped. 'And there comes my sister.'
