I really want to complete this book in the next 2 1/2 weeks.
Also we get Ikor and Trek next because I need them.
Ikor had better things to to than magazines, at least most of the time.
That night, right after Eron told them about his not-so-pleasant conversation on the two-way radio, he dozed off. The whole thing shook him up enough to make Eron tired. He never thought that is even possible in the few weeks he had known him.
But the moment he mentioned their names, something triggered in the back of Ikor's mind. The names rang a bell, but why? He had told the others about it and promised to look around for the names.
And he did.
He was thankful his father wasn't so disturb about him going out right after dinner. Fylkir was staying over but to be honest, Ikor couldn't care less now.
But even as he sat with his laptop, his thoughts slowly wandered from most the recent events today to a few weeks back. If you told him he would miss a hockey practice one day because of an injury from a bullet, he would claim he never gets into trouble, much less something like that.
Something had definitely changed after he'd met these guys. As enjoyable as it was to hang out with Trek, Riff, Eron and Aoki, his gut often screams at him he'll end up in prison. Ikor had never managed to ignore his instincts this well. He was never a good liar to himself.
Well, it was time to find out whether that was right or not.
Cryptos . . . he knows that names.
It took some research, but he found them. Cryptos Mhambi. And just then, the door to his room flung open. He was startled, almost dropping the device.
'Ikor!' he couldn't help but grunt at the voice. There goes his peace of mind.
'What do you want, Fylkir?'
The older just invited himself further into his room. 'Is what I heard right?'
Ikor did not need to ask about it to know what he meant. 'How did you know?'
'I can practically hear the hassle going on in the station from here.'
Well he wasn't wrong, it was barely a few minutes walk from their house and that was also why Ikor was the first there. 'Hey, do you recognize this man?'
Fylkir stepped closer and sat beside him on the bed. He showed him the pictures. His face twisted almost immediately. 'Oh, that guy... the investor from a few years ago?'
'Investor?' Ikor questioned, he knows he looked familiar but he didn't recall much further.
'I don't have details, but he had some business around the city with a big company he works for.' He paused, trying to remember more. 'That was... what? 7 years ago?'
'Wow, I thought you only remember as far as you breakfast yesterday.'
'Well, I have some much older memories of you.'
'...'
'Well, there isn't much about him on the web anyways.' Ikor changed the subject.
Fylkir then literally lit up with an idea. 'Yeah, but...' He darted out of the room, and Ikor didn't bother to hope that he wouldn't come back. A minute or two later, he re-entered and dropped a pile of old magazines on the mattress.
'Uh...'
'Don't know why, but I was really into these kind of stuff back in middle school.' Fylkir explained. 'Mostly for the word puzzles though.'
Ikor took one look at said magazines, these things weren't usual kids' stuff, they were basically heavier newspapers. He guessed his cousin must've gotten bored of the lower level challenges. As foolish and annoying he was, he was still pretty smart and witty.
'You're a high school senior now. Why do you still keep them?' he asked. Upon turning the first page of one though, he could see why Fylkir had brought them. There it was, a picture and article about the very same Cryptos Mhambi.
'He was all over the place for some reason back then.' Fylkir told him. Ikor felt sort of stupid for not catching up on it when the man was almost everywhere then 'You want them?'
2 days later, they had finally managed to track down the all the way to his current job.
I can't even count the number of times I've daydreamt about the next chapters. I am so excited. A scene always stuck in my head is when Riff and the other two were ready to just give away the Elestar to save Aoki and Ikor just took his job as the braincell of the group. Otherwise, they could've lost both.
Mhambi means traveller in Zulu because, ya know, Cryptos and his portals.
