"Tell me..why do you protect him..time and time again.. That wretched boy who never even remembers your name..and that foolish princess..Tell me, why risk your life for them again and again?!"

"Ngn! Ack!

The tall man had a grip of iron around your throat, squeezing it ever so slowly as he choked the life right out of you.

Your smaller hands grasped at his fingers, pulling at them in a feeble attempt to free yourself from his grasp.

"You're a fool, girl. To stand against me, you always have been. I almost pity you, you're nothing but a slave to the goddess and that foolish boy."

He threw you to the ground where you rolled over onto your stomach, hunched over as you coughed and gasped for air.

The broad man stood above you with a dark grin, clutching the sword at his side. His golden eyes peered down at you with such malice that it was palpable.

This man..

This evil man..was Ganondorf and you knew him all too well.

Time and time again you and him butted heads. It was because you always seemed to come back again and again and again! Just like the boy he was referring to and the princess.

Link and Zelda.

It was a constant cycle throughout time that you had been pulled into by the very being that created you in the first place along with other beings like you.

The Goddess Hylia.

She created you with a single purpose.

To protect Link even if it meant the cost of your own life.

Yet that never fazed you.

If it meant protecting Link, you'd throw yourself on a blade time and time again.

Death didn't matter because it didn't mean the end like it did for most beings.

If you died in one life, you'd simply be reborn again in another with the same purpose.

Over and Over again until the end of time.

Or until..

Ganondorf yanked you back up to your feet by hair causing you to wince and thrash in his grip.

You stumbled back as he pulled you against him and gripped your cheeks.

"Look out there. Look at this disgraceful land you call Hyrule. Tell me, what has it ever done for you? Why strive so hard to protect it?"

Using his power, Ganondorf had overtaken Hyrule Castle and used his dark magic to make it levitate high off the Earth below. Due to this height, you had a clear view of the vast land below, Hyrule.

You wondered about Link at this moment. Was he down there somewhere? Was he coming to face Ganondorf? Where was he?

"Answer me. Why protect people you don't even know? Why not break this cycle you've been trapped in? You're merely a victim in the goddess's game."

He spun you around quickly, gripping your chin as he forced you to gaze up into those golden eyes of his.

A smirk had crept onto his features yet his next words were genuine.

"Why not join me instead?"

You blinked.

"W-What? Join you?" You questioned.

"Yes. See, I'm stronger than ever now. Why not be on the winning team? With our strengths combined, we could easily rule this land and make it our own! We could break out of the cycle we were destined to be in. You could be more than just a shield to that boy..Come on..Join me and claim your freedom."

You stared up at him with wide eyes. Confusion had sunk in. For decades Link and Ganondorf were mortal enemies and that also meant that he was your enemy too.

Never did you ever imagine he would try to get you to be his alley.

Though, it would be very beneficial for him to have a practically immortal being on his side. And with you being so close to Link, it would be all the more satisfying and an even harder blow to that hero.

Ganondorf held out one of his rather large hands to you, kneeling down to your height.

"What do you say?"

You stared at him quietly, biting your lip with a clenched fist.

"It's true he may not remember me every time..and this does get tedious after a while.." you began. "However, I don't do this just for Link.. I do it for the people of Hyrule! The ones who need a hero to look out for them."

Ganondorf's eyes narrowed at your words but he didn't interrupt.

You pressed a hand to your chest.

"Link taught me that himself! Each person is a precious life that needs to be protected! Be on the winning team you say? I always am because no matter what, I know Link will always win and he'll always defeat you!" You shouted at him with determined eyes.

The tall man huffed and stepped towards you, yanking you up to his height by your cheeks.

"Well then.."his voice was low as his face got close to yours. "I guess you're no longer needed then.."

With that said, Ganondorf threw you backwards, sending you falling over the edge of his floating castle.

Your eyes were wide as you fell back, plummeting fast towards the Earth below.

He smirked as he watched your frame disappear.

"Foolish girl..you won't be coming back this time...not after I finally kill that boy once and for all.."

As you fell, your mind began to race, recalling every moment that led you to where you were now.

Every time you had ever been with Link and all the reincarnations of him and every time you died for him..

Was it about to happen again?

Were you destined to continue to die time and time again?

Could this really be your sole purpose?

You extended your arm out, reaching for something that wasn't there.

Any moment you would hit the ground and begin life anew in a different timeline like always.

And like always..he probably won't remember you.

A tear escaped your eyes as you closed them.

"Link.. No matter what..beat him."
