Kason; present dayMy phone vibrated on the table next to my bed, without opening my eyes I answered it.
"Yeah?"
"Kason, I need you to get here now." Asher said desperately.
I sat up quickly, now wide awake. "Why? Is it Sawyer?"
"She's okay. She's awake actually, but she's freaking out. She doesn't trust me, and Kason... Sawyer can't really see, everything is blurry to her. The doctor said its temporary, only for a day or two." Asher explained.
"What do you need me to do?" I asked him.
"Just get here, she knows you the best, maybe it will calm her down. The shrink will be here sometime today to talk to her. Also, the cops were here asking her questions. She wouldn't disclose anything, they could tell she was holding back information. The cops asked me who I thought was abusing her, I said they should speak to her father since h was so controlling over her. They informed me, they haven't been able to find him for the past few days now. Something isn't right Kason..." Asher rambled on, concern evident in his voice.
"Okay, I'm heading there now." I told him, hanging up quickly.
I jumped up, running around my room grabbing my clothes and pulling them on. Rushing out of my bedroom door and down the stairs , passing by Jayden and Logan in the living room.
"Hey! Where are you rushing off to? Is it Sawyer?" Logan asked, slowly starting to panic.
"Asher called, he wants me to meet him at the hospital. Sawyer is awake, she isn't a huge fan of Asher, she... she can't really see right now, so she's really freaking out." I quickly told them as i threw on my jacket.
"Okay, we're coming with you." Logan said getting to his feet, grabbing his keys.
Jayden did the same. We were all out the door, piling into Logan's car at record speed.
We arrived at the hospital, a nurse led us to Sawyer's room. I heard screaming, rushing past the nurse trying to get to Sawyer. When I got to her room, she was thrashing around in her bed, but her eyes were still closed. I search the room, trying to figure out what was going on. That's when I find Asher watching her with genuine concern written on his face, but even he seemed unsure of what to do.
"What happened?" I asked as I stood next to Sawyer's bed, the others quickly joined us.
We all stepped aside and out of the way so the nurses could help calm Sawyer.
"They gave her some pain meds , it helped her relax and she fell asleep. Then a few minutes ago, she woke up screaming and crying. It looks like she's trapped in a nightmare." Asher explained, running his hands through his hair.
"Can't they give her something to help her?" Logan asked, panic evident in his voice.
"They need her to stop thrashing around for them to inject it, but as soon as anyone touches her she freaks out more." Asher explained with his hands forming into fists at his sides.
"No! No! Please stop! I don't want to! Get off me!" Sawyer cried out, tears streaming down her cheeks.
The nurse turns to look at us, "I know this may be hard for you boys, but can you help hold her down so we can help her?" The nurse asked us with pleading eyes.
We all hesitated for a second, then looked at each other and then back to Sawyer. Nodding our heads, we agreed to help. I grabbed her shoulders, Jay was holding her left arm, while Asher and Logan held her legs. The nurse had her right arm, so she could give her the shot.
Her body finally started to relax, she was still whimpering as the nurse stepped away. "She should be able to rest now." The nurse informed us, "she's experienced a lot of trauma, she should really speak to the therapist as soon as she wakes up." She told us, before stepping out of the room.
"Man... this is messed up. She is worse than we ever knew." Logan stated.
Asher and Jayden silently pulled some chairs closer to Sawyer's bed, sitting quietly, watching her rest. This whole situation with Sawyer, has really shaken them up. Logan always seems calm and unaffected by things, but he can't even hide his emotions. He stood at the end of her bed, with his eyes fixed on Sawyer. The Dark Angel's watching over one special girl.
We spent several hours sitting with Sawyer, each of us taking turns running to get energy drinks as we wait to wake up. I would occasionally catch each of my friends staring at Sawyer with so much regret and guilt in their eyes, making me wonder if I looked the same way. After all these years of tormenting her, we were regretting everything we ever did to her.
This has knocked some sense into us, but it also was a reminder that there was a part of us that was stil.. human. We had been acting like we were cold hearted and uncaring for s long time, but that all ending the moment we heard that gun go off.
Sawyer began to stir a couple of hours later, making us all shoot up to our feet.
"Hello? Wh-who's there?" Sawyer asked panic in her voice.
We all glanced at each other, not sure what to say.
"It's Asher... the other boys are here too." He told her carefully, hoping not to frighten her more.
I could hear her breathing quickening, as she moved further up in her bed. Her face shifted from fear to sadness as tears fell down her cheeks.
"Please, just leave me alone. People will know if you guys try to do anything to me." She said with a tremble in her voice.
I swallowed the lump in my throat. The boys looked equally as hurt by her words as I felt. She was terrified of us, and I can't blame her.
"Sawyer, none of us want to hurt you, but we don't wanna have you be alone." I said stepping closer to her.
"Kason?" She sniffled.
A small smile formed on my face, at the fact that she sounded relieved that it was me. I took my chance and wrapped her up in my arms, never wanting to let her go again.
"Yeah Sawyer, it's me. I'm so sorry, for everything..."
I didn't care what the guys saw or what they thought of me, Sawyer needs me. She let out a small cry, not even hesitating, I crawled into the bed, taking her into my arms. She didn't even try yo fight me, she just hid her face into my chest and cried quietly. I held her tighter, whispering calming words in her ear. It's then, when I promise her I wouldn't let anyone hurt her again. She wrapped her arms around my waist, as she continued to cry. I finally felt her body relax, as she fell back asleep. I didn't move, not even an inch, she needs this, needs me.
"What's going on in your head Kase?" Logan asked.
He didn't seem to be teasing, he looked genuinely curious.
"I can't leave her again... I hurt her bad before, and she has no one to care about her. I can't leave her, not again." I tell them, needing them all to know how I felt about Sawyer, how I need to protect her.
"I told the doctor we would take her to stay with us, while the cops investigate her abuse." Asher told us.
He stood, reaching out to brush a strand of hair from Sawyer's face. The action was so gentle that I wouldn't have believed it, if I hadn't seen it for myself. Asher was the most closed off out of all of us, even Jay. I watched in fascination, I'd never seen him act in such a compassionate way, like it was out of habit. Jayden and Logan noticed it too, as they watched with a wide eyed expressions.
"She was so scared of us... I'm afraid she'll never trust us enough, to let us protect her." Jayden's face was stoic, but there was a hint of disappointment in his expressions.
"We'll just have to prove to her that she can trust us enough, to protect her. After everything they told me, about what happened to her... there is no way in hell, we are going back to the way things were. She needs us to protect her." Asher said with determination in his voice.
Just then the door to Sawyer's room slammed open, and an angry middle-aged man in a suit was standing in the doorway. He reeked of alcohol.
"Get your hands off my daughter!" He yelled, staring daggers at me.
