Kason; Freshman Year
"Hey Kase, isn't that the weird girl you showed up with on the first day?" Ariel asked with a laugh.I followed her line of sight and saw Sawyer walking toward her locker with her head low. My stomach churned at the gilt for leaving Sawyer after I had promised her that we would stick together forever, but that was before. I needed these guys right now after my parents kicked me out. The guys have quickly become my family and had no plan B if it didn't work out. Besides, it wasn't like the guys had actually hurt her. The girls were a little rougher but I hadn't seen them do anything more than tease her a little.
"She would be nice to look at it she tried, but like that she's forgettable." Logan said with a shrug.
"She is not pretty are you blind? She is disgusting." Ariel said.
"We should totally help her out Ariel." Brooklyn said with a smirk.
Ariel smiled with pleasure, "We should definitely help. She you later boys, don't miss me too much baby!" She planted a kiss on Asher's lips before walking off."God. She is annoying, explain to me again why you are saying that girl." Logan said with disgust.
"My dad wants me to get close with her to figure out what her father is up to. What he's investing in and his next move for his company." Asher explained. He's explained all of this to us before, Logan liked to bring it up once a week just to tell Asher how miserable he is with her around.
"Has she invited you over yet? You've been working her for 3 months now." Logan pointed out.
"Not yet, but she keeps hinting at us getting to be alone on her dad's next business trip." Asher rolled his eyes.
"Asher, gonna cash in that v-card huh?" Logan teased, nudging Asher's arm.
Asher gave him a pointed look. "Hell no. She's clingy enough, I'm not making it even worse. Pretending I'm into her is bad enough."We all knew Ariel lied about her previous sexual experiences. We learned everything about her before we started this mission, but obviously we had to keep that a secret.
"What if she notices your constant denials to her advances?" Jayden asked.
"She has her head in the clouds 50% of the time that she won't notice. I'll come up with another excuse." He assured us."I personally wouldn't mind exploring that little lady Kason brought on the first day. Wanna introduce me?" Logan asked wiggling his eyebrows while checking out Sawyer.
"Why?" I asked.
"She's got this whole pure and innocent thing going on and you know I like a challenge."He said with a smirk.
"That girl ain't worth it, trust me." I shrugged it off, but my roaches dropped at the thought of Logan getting his hands on her. Logan didn't bother listening like normal and took off after Sawyer, throwing an arm over her shoulders."Hey Sunny! When are we having our study date? I need some help with anatomy and you have all the right equipment." Logan said all cocky.
She looked at him confused. "Aren't you in intro science?" She asked.
I snorted, Logan shot me a deadly glare.
"Come on Logan, she isn't worth the hassle. She wouldn't be able to satisfy your appetite." Jayden said pushing Logan along. It always surprises me when Jay speaks up about Sawyer, since he barely takes part in the jokes. When I looked back at Sawyer she has her head low and dipped around the corner.
"Man Jay, you messed up my prospects! I had her right where I wanted her." Logan grumbled.I don't know what it is about Sawyer that has my friends somewhat obsessed. She has this way of pulling people towards her, whether she wanted it or not. As much as she tries to be invisible, just wasn't possible. That day I found her in the rain it felt like a magnet was pulling me towards her. That's why I spent as much time with her as I could that whole year we were friends. Then everything fell apart and I didn't want her to see me broken, so I pushed her away.
Every part of me wanted to apologize, just so we could go back to the way things were. But I ruined our relationship and I doubt she would want me back as a friend..."Jay's right Logan, that little thing is not worth the trouble. She barely even talks, where's the fun in that." Asher added.
Logan chuckled "True, you know I don't like my grills quiet." He wiggled his eyebrows and I shook my head, smiling at his stupidity.
He's the biggest flirt in our group, and he certainly has no problem getting the girls to dawn all over him. Jayden had that dark, mysterious vibe going on that makes the girls both wanted and fear him. Asher has Ariel and she somewhat kept the girls away from him with her threats and was the only girl I thought about. We made our way to class and my eyes instantly found her the moment we entered the classroom. Logan pushed past me and fell into the seat beside her, giving her a devilish grin. She glanced at him then went back to writing in her notebook, not even acknowledging him being that glance.
"Playing hard to get Sunny? You should know, I always get what I want." He bragged.
Sawyer didn't say anything and the rest of us took the remaining seats around her. Jay grabbed her notebook she was writing in and flipped through it.
"Such a studious little thing aren't you." He teased, tossing her notebook back on her desk. "It won't help you though."
"So true. There is no hope for the little pig." Ariel smirked as she sat in Asher's lap. "Baby, why don't you come sit by me, and get away from little miss barnyard."Asher gave a fake smile "Yeah, you're right. The air is hard to breathe around here."
Ariel giggled Ames leaned towards Sawyer and whispered in her ear. " Oh little pig, when will you learn no one wants you here? Just hurry on home to your barn and don't come back."I could see Sawyers breathing pick up in pace but, she didn't respond. She didn't even look at any of us, just stared at her notebook. Ariel laughed and pulled Asher up leading him away, and with one last glance at Sawyer I followed with the rest of the guys. This is how most of the days passed between Sawyer and us; but, today she was gifted with an extra jab as someone left dissected fetal pigs in her locker from the zoology class. They fell out as soon as she opened her locker, with a note saying, "They're gutless just like you." Sawyer slipped on one of the pigs and dropped all her books. I could see the tears falling down her red, rosy cheeks as she tried to hold it in. A crowd had obviously formed and all the other kids are whispering and laughing at her as they walk past her to their classes.
I glanced around and see Ariel laughing, while Brooklyn was recording everything. Some random guy walked up to Sawyer and helped her pick up her books. He offered a helping hand to get her off the floor and I saw red. I rushed over to them pushing him away from her, with my strength I used to push him away, I also caused Sawyer to slip and fall, again. She cried out in pain as she fell back onto her but and her head hit the lockers.
The guy looked stunned. " Don't go near her if you know what's good for ya. Got it?" I yelled at down at him. He looked towards Sawyer and gave her an apologetic look before taking off. I turned to look at Sawyer, only to be met with tear filled eyes locked on mine. It felt like I was punched in the gut before she got up and ran down the hall.
"Alright. Shows over!" I yelled at the crowd.
Once most of the crowd dissipated I went to the janitors closet and grabbed a teabag, along with some paper towels. I walked back to her locker to clean up everything and throw it away in the dumpsters behind the school. When I opened the dumpster something caught my eye, I reached in and grabbed a notebook that looked familiar. It was Sawyer, the one she was scribbling in earlier today. I opened it, flipping through the pages; like Jay had pointed out earlier it was mostly schoolwork. But, on the very last page there was a small quote that didn't belong.
"It's getting dark, too dark to see...When will you come back and rescue me..."
