We were all staring at Maud waiting for her to say something, but she didn't
"I don't know where to start from" she said as she looked at me
"I..." she took a deep breath and reached for my uninjured hands, she held it with her two hands
"Jade" and I left out a tiny sadistic chuckle, I can't remember the last time Maud used my real name to call me,
"Stop making this hard on both of us" I said, I was tearing up and so was she
"I...it's just a lot of things, I knew about everything, all this while, and I said nothing, I watched as you cried whenever they stopped you from going to the movies, or a friends party, or random walks" she said as a tear escaped her eye
I can't cry... I have never cried in front of anyone apart from Nana and Maud and I won't start today
"Whenever you asked me what might be the reason behind it?... I said no even though I knew" another tear came down
Mason rubbed her back
"So now Jade,you can ask me anything, I will answer you"
As much as I wanted wanted to sympathize with Maud right now,I just can't, it's still not fair that she knew yet she acted so oblivious to such an extent
"Ask me anything" she repeated
Seconds of silence passed before I spoke,a million questions were racing through my mind, but I chose to settle for the highlight of today
"Niko?" I said "You said something about him being dead?, explain" I said in a commanding tone l
"It was a year after we moved here,I overheard my parents talking to Nana on a phone call they were offering their condolences"
"When I asked my mom about it she said didn't deny it nor did she affirm it, so I didn't know what to assume"
"But... why will they hide something like this from me?, it's just Niko, I deserved to know if my cousin is dead or alive!" I said half yelling
"I have absolutely no idea"
I was bubbling up What the Hell?!!!
I loved my parents but this!! This was absurd!
"Okay... now answer this, who are they?!, what do they do, how do they a means of living, tell me everything"
She let go of my hand, and looked into my eyes
"Your parents Jade... your parents"
She took a deep breath
"They were mafias, Likewise my parents, Mason's, and Dean's"
She took a quick glance at him so did I, he didn't look like he was listening to Maud
"Although his Father isn't involved directly, but... he is"
He stared at me waiting for a reaction but I think my brain shutdown for some seconds
"The thing is basically almost everyone that lives in this city has some involvement with mafias, and your parents, in the mafia world they basically ruled the world,"
She paused again staring at me expecting some sort of reaction but none came so she continued
"It might sound surprising since most powerful Italians are hardly Americans which is why your parents have made history, not only that the were considered as power couple to the whole world, thanks to their NGO's, their oil business, their hospitals, but it was because of the change they made, as you might think, mafias they have lots of blood on their hands, they are involved in things like human trafficking, large-scale drug trafficking,Money laundering and so on"
"But that is not the case,if there's anything a your parents hated,it was drug trafficking,they also saved a lot of people from being trafficked, as a result of that the mafia world went into chaos, everyone was against them, everyone related to them, their lives were in danger, until they started convincing some top mafias to join them, and welcome a new era of Mafias"
"But they still couldn't risk people knowing you existed, your mother's family were slaughtered and their heads were brought as a package to their home, which is why they had to protect you, I know they might have gone extreme but Jade... can you blame them?"
I stared at her I didn't know what to feel, how to react, my parents... they were involved in some crazy gang
But before address the issue I need to do something first
"What is the time?" I asked her
She stared at me clearly in shock at my sudden question but she quickly recovered from it and started searching with her eyes frantically for a wall clock until she found one,
"It's 15:17, Why?"
"Let's go to the funeral" I said
"Jade it's already over, there's no one there, Moreover, it's not safe"
"Maud...,i haven't seen my parents in two weeks, I need to see them one last time, I don't care if some Psychotic gang members are after me"
She looked at Mason,hoping he would say something,but he didn't
"Jade, just listen to me, you won't even be able to see them, they have been buried already,"
"You think I don't know that?"
Suddenly Dean stood up abruptly and left the room
"It's okay guys" Mason said
Maud looked at me again and continued
"We don't even know where they buried"
"They are my parents, I will find them"
Dean entered the room again, he scanned our faces then finally spoke
"We can take you to their" he said looking at me
"But Dean..." Maud interrupted but he just continued talking,
"I already spoke to Miles, he is the head of the security department in my father's company, I asked him if he would be able to contact your uncle"
""The bodyguards are also here, they stay nearby, so we can take you there"
He said
Maud looked back at me
"Okay fine...we can go"
I smiled
"But Maud, your leg?" Mason said, it's like he has forgotten I am the one with 12 stitches
"It's fine actually"
"No it's..."
"Actually Mason it actually is fine, it's just a sprained ankle, she doesn't have any stitches on her leg," It was Dean who spoke and I was trying to stop a chuckle from escaping, it's very cute how Mason cares for Maud,
"If you still aren't okay with it, then feel free to carry her around" Dean concluded
"Of course I was going to do that" Mason said and attempted to carry but she didn't let him
"Wait..." she pressed her palms on his chest
"Jade let me help you..."
"Oh no,the doctor said you shouldn't stress your leg, that includes helping which includes a lot of walking which brings about stressing your leg so No"
"Mason come on I n..."
"No,Dean will help her" he said and looked at him, so did I
"Right Dean?,"
