Mikey always wonders about if humans would ever accept him, them, mutants in general.
Admittedly, he knows his looks weren't really appealing to the eye, shocking even. And as much as he raves about feelings and dealing with them, he... struggles with his own sometimes.
A part of that is acknowledging the fact that he can't force people to like him. As much as he can't force himself to bend to peoples stereotypes, it gets to him at times.
Thus, he turned to the one place that he can talk to people without them seeing him, the internet.
No kidding he loved to talk to his brothers and April, but he craved for interaction with others.
Just merely talking with other people outside of his family was enough to fuel him to do more.
That led to social media, which then led him to you.
Making a burner account Mikey decided to post.
He often posted his art, mostly grafiti around the city, with a few featured pieces from his sketchbook, or stickers that he made.
He built up a small following across the days that he had posted. And eventually, his art made its way to you.
You were browsing one day when you stumbled across his posts.
The very first one that caught your eye was a piece that decorated a wall of his room.
It was a mosaic of planets woven together with strands of starlight, spray painted on with most skilled hand.
As you liked the post, you decided to comment:
"Love that piece! Is it inspired by anything in particular?"
Satisfied by your comment you started your doom scroll again.
However, a few minutes later, you had a response.
Surprised at the quick response, you clicked on the notification.
"Thanks! It's inspired by —— do you know of them?"
Your brain clicked at the name. Replying, you typed:
"Yeah! I love their work, their most recent post was really beautiful!"
You were about to click off the post again before a notification appeared at the top of your screen.
Curious, you clicked on it to see a DM from the artist who was messaging you in the comments.
"You have good taste! :)"
"Thanks! Your art is really good! :)"
This chatting continued on as you both grew to know the other, via constant messages.
You both liked chatting with each other and before you knew it, you had each others phone numbers.
As the weeks passed, it was a nonstop texting on both of your ends.
He'd always send you the latest memes at the most random times, and you would spam him with Tiktoks at 3 a.m, you know, the usual.
You'd always look forward to your talks, they were always so fun and energetic. You liked to learn about him, what he did, though he seemed to be withholding information.
You bonded over your shared interests, like art and music. Being a shared passion between the both of you.
You could say that his taste in music was unique, but, you enjoyed the songs you shared with each other.
