The two men sat in their barracks right next to their planes, partially out of their hangers and fully loaded. Day and night, the spitfires sat there dormant, and so did their pilots, unable to leave within 5 minutes of the area.
They saw a woman in a sharp quartermaster's uniform approach them carrying pieces of paper; they opened the door and greeted her with a smile, "Hey, Daisy."
She smiled and handed Doriph the papers, "Are you sure you want to go through this?"
"You know me by now," He chuckled as he signed.
"I do, in fact; you haven't spoken to another human apart from yourselves and I. Starting to think you're going crazy."
"He's past that point."
Daisy chuckled as she grabbed the papers; she informed them that the planes were like normal, ready to fly at a moments notice. As she left, she smiled at the men, her eyes seeming to glow under the early sunrise.
Ruth asked, "She single?"
"Never saw a ring, didn't mention a boyfriend either; why?"
He turned and grinned at Doriph, "John is single. Why not be his wingman too?"

The sirens blared suddenly. It was loud and instantly jumped the men's hearts. They rushed towards their planes as the nearby crew set up for their lift-off. As Doriph got into his plane and put on his helmet, he saw Daisy staring at him with a soft smile as the engines roared.
"You single?"
She laughed, "Yes, I am! But aren't you married?"
"Yes sir, but this handsome lad, John, isn't. He's the same group as I am."
"Your John's wingman now?"
"Nah, I'd never cheat on Ruth!" He closed his canopy as he laughed. Daisy blushed slightly as Doriph held his thumb up.
Ruth's plane went first, and very soon after, so did his. Daisy muttered, "Godspeed."
