When I looked up at the clock, it was now five in the morning. I looked at Fernando who showed no sign of tiredness.
"Alex?" He was still focused on the TV. Now, we watched Cars. His hands were holding up his cheeks while his elbows were on the floor.
"Yes?" I was ready to sleep.
"Are you and Geoffrey boyfriend and girlfriend?"
I giggled, "Why would you say such a thing?"
"Because you already have five missed calls from him. Plus nine messages from him. Can I read them to you?"
"Sure," My knuckles were on my forehead and I was laying on my back. I rested my eyes while he started reading.
"Message one, are you in Texas. Message two, hello with a question mark. Message three, are you okay with three question marks. Message four, I'm not kidding with three periods. Last message, in all caps, Alexandria comma answer me now."
"Are you sure you're actually five and not TWENTY-five?"
"I'm one hundred percent sure! And you also have a message from... A B E L?"
I quickly turned on my side, "Are you serious?"
"Yeah, look!" His little hands placed the phone in my hands. Sure enough, there was a text from none other than Abel Tesfaye.
I need you. Three words. Three simple words. Those three words sent a million plus thoughts racing in my mind. They were all interrupted by commotion from downstairs.
"Did you hear that?" Fer asked.
I nodded and we both struggled to scramble out of the room. I stood leaning my body on the top of the stair railing while Fer raced to the stairs themselves.
"Mijo! Look at you! All grown. Such a man!" A female's voice spoke. The voice belonged to my mother. I folded my arms on top of each other and put my chin on top of them.
"Oh you know. Age catches up to you," A male voice spoke. The voice belonged to Geoffrey. I watched as my mom hugged and pampered Geoffrey as if he were actually her son.
"Geoffrey!" Little feet stomped the floor and tackled Geoffrey. He caught Fer perfectly.
"Hey little guy," Geoffrey laughed and spun Fer.
"I missed you! I even made you something!" When Geoffrey finally put him down, Fer pulled out the exact drawing he showed me but this time showed it to Geoffrey.
"This is super cool! I'll let Alex know where to stick it on my wall!" Geoffrey looked at it like a prize.
"Hear that Alex! You get to put stuff on Prince Royce's wall!" Fer looked up in my direction and gave me a huge smile.
"Yea. The best job ever," I lifted my head and forced a smile blinking away the tears forming in my eyes.
"Only the best for the best sister ever," Fer added.
"Mhm," I nodded.
"Are you gonna join us?" Geoffrey's eyes showed me he knew the same thing I knew. That he could hurt me so easily like this. He knew my family would perfer him over me. That's how it had been for a while.
"Nah I'm good," My smile vanished from my face, "I'd rather not eat with people who don't appreciate my company."
"Alex! Respect!" My mom poked her head in the living room.
"Respect I give to those who earn it from me," I looked at her in disgust.
"Fer, you want some pan dulce?" Junior calles from the kitchen. Fer ran excitedly to Junior. He was quite oblivious to what was unfolding before him.
