I was outside a store and looked at the people, thinking about how to tell my brother that I was thinking about moving away. I had gotten an offer, it was a good Payed Job, however, I would live far away from him, and home would I be only at Christmas. Yeah sure, I didn't see my brother often because of his wife, but he still tried to visit me as often as he could.
It was hard to even think about it. I was happy I got this offer, but I couldn't leave my older brother behind. the fact that I would be separated from him hurt, he was much older than me and could take care of himself, but I was still worried.
I didn't have much time to think about the offer and my brother because he suddenly came out of the store and looked at me.
"What are you thinking about, pumpkin?" He asked me with a soft smile. I looked at him and smiled back.
"I just looked at the city and thought about the time we were traveling in Europe." I decided not telling him was the best option, not yet at least, I wasn't even sure myself, so why tell him about something that's maybe never going to happen?
His smile went bigger, almost into that grin he made when he was about to say something I definitely didn't want to hear.
"Oh yeah, that was a great time. The mountains, the lakes, the towns-it was all better than that god-damn city..." He trailed off until he remembered something. "Wait, I remember that, dude, what was his name again?"
Now he had that grin on his face, and I knew what was coming.
"Shut it, I don't want to remember that night, Net."
I said, annoyed, "He had the best places to talk about stuff like this' I thought, "I don't know what his name was, but I do know that you were very drunk that night."
He said, ignoring what I just told him, "You thought he was your ex and cried onto him and said, "Kenny, why did you leave meeeeee!" I took the item he bought out of his hand and slapped him with it, he just laughed, and I sent him a glare: "Thank you for that net, as you said, I was very drunk, so again, shut it!"
He laughed, and I hit him with the item over and over again, telling him to stop talking about that night, but sadly, he didn't. "Net, how often do I have to say it until you stop?"
"Kenny, don't leave, stayyyy please!"
He mocked me. I had enough and punched him in the stomach. He held his hands over it and scoffed, "That's what you get from messing with me." My voice was cold, and he raised his hands in loss. "Okay, okay, okay, I will stop." I glared at him and nodded my head. "Thank you," I said, and I started to walk to our car.
He jogged after me and was about to say something until we heard an explosion. We looked at each other and ran in the direction where the loud sound came from. We looked around to see what happened, a building near us was burning, and screams could be heard.
"What the hell?" I said, as Net and I were looking at the city and its people, either they were confused as we were or they were in panic and started to run. It looked like people were fighting with each other, but as we looked longer, they weren't just fighting, they were biting other people to the point where they screamed in pain.
A few people laid on the floor, other people were trying not to get bit by whatever that was, and others were dead. Well, not really dead, but I didn't know at the time what was happening. "Please tell me I'm not the only one who's seeing this," I said to Net. He was just as shocked as me and needed a few seconds to find his words.
"No, I see it, but what is this all abou-"
Before my brother could finish his sentence, I started to scream. He turned to me and saw that one of these things was attacking and trying to bite me.
"NET HELP!" I screamed again, I struggled and tried to get the "person" away from me, It was making weird sounds, and its spittle was on my face. I thought I was going to die right then and there, but then a knife went through its head, and I had blood all over my face.
I pushed it off me and saw Net with his pocket knife in his hands, as he was stabbing the thing with it in the head a few seconds ago.
"Are you okay?" he asked, holding his hand out to me, which I took, and he pulled me up. "Yeah, yeah, I think so." What the hell is this thing, and what is happening?" Net shook his head. "I don't know," he said in panic, and we looked around once again.
"We have to get out of here, it's not safe." Net wanted to say something, but he knew I was right, so he just nodded and pointed his finger at his car.
"Go to the car, I have your back," he said. I nodded and ran to the car, Net was not far away from me.
Or so I thought.
Not too long after that, I heard screaming again, and I turned around with the item Net bought. I saw more of these things around us, attacking and killing more people, then I remembered:Net
I looked for him and saw him near a bank. Surrounded by these things, his knife was lying on the floor.
I ran and grabbed it, stabbing one of these things, but the knife didn't do any damage when it hit its leg.
"Take the car keys and run, there are more!"
"I can't leave you here!"
"I-IVY, GO TAKE THE CAR, I'M COMING AFTER YOU, I PROMISE!"
I didn't want to leave him, so I tried stabbing the thing again.
"I can't leave you here, you're going to die!" I wasn't going to leave him, I didn't want to, but the look in my brother's eyes said it all.
"Ivy, please go, I will be fine!" I knew I shouldn't leave, I knew I should have stayed and fought for him, but I caught the keys he threw in my direction and got to the car door. I opened it, sat down in the car, and started it.
Net pushed the things away from him and lured them in a different direction so that I could leave. "Drive anywhere you think it's safe."I will find you, we will see each other again, I promise!"
He shouted after me.
I couldn't say anything to him because the things dragged him into an ally. I drove and looked back one last time, promising myself that I would find him again, no matter what.
