I blinked when I woke up, my body didn't want to move, but I knew I had to look for him. I promised myself that the bright light of the sun was shining right into my face.
When I sat up, I looked around to make sure there were no walkers around. When I was sure I was alone, I looked at my pocket watch, which luckily still works. It was 10 a.m., which meant I had slept for an hour. "It's not much, but it's better than nothing," i thought
I took my backpack and pulled an apple out of it. I bit into the fruit and was glad that I had this one left. "Okay, time for the next stop." I pulled out a map and laid it on the ground. On the map were a few black "XS."
I marked the places I went to look for my brother and ended up not finding anything. I was frustrated-three months and no trace of my brother. I sighed and thought for a moment to make up my mind where I should go next.
I decided to go to a highway nearby, maybe I could find anything good in the cars. I packed my things together and checked my weapons. I had my brother's knife, a gun, and an arrow. I found the gun by an dead police walker and the arrow in a little house not far from the place where I slept.
I wasn't sure if anyone lived in that house, but I didn't want to find out, so I left.
I had encountered a few people, some good, some bad, and more of them were bad people. I tried to shake off the thought and started to go to the highway. When I arrived, I was checking the cars to see if there was anything usfull in them, and in fact, there was good stuff: medicine, another knife, and something to drink. As I was looking for more stuff, I saw a car with food and drinks on it. I rushed over to it and was ready to take all of it until I saw that something was written on the car.
'SOPHIA STAY HERE, WE WILL COME EVERY DAY.' I felt sad about it, I don't really know why, but the fact that people got separated in this world... It just triggered something in me.
I had laid the map on the car and taken just a few things from the food and drinks in case Sophia was coming back to this car. I looked over the map again while I was eating a sandwich that I found in the car. It was not much, but I gladly took it.
As I scanned the map, I spotted something on the map that was nearby, it read 'Greene Farm' and was a 30-minute walk away from my position.
"Maybe my brother was there, and if not, maybe I could get some stuff from there, I mean, it's worth a shot," I thought. After a while, I finished my sandwich, and I set off for the farm, hoping to find anything that could help me find my brother there. As I was walking through the forest, a few walkers came along my way. I kicked one of them away and stabbed them in the head with my knife. In the last few months, I have learned a lot about walkers. The most important things I needed were: how to distract them, how to kill them, and how to wander around with them.
It wasn't easy to live in this shithole of hell, but I made it so far, and I will keep it that way.
After I walked a while, I could see some free land, and with every step, I could see more of a white house that was standing in the middle of the field.I felt a bit of joy rise in me when I thought about new people and some food, but I pushed this feeling down. I didn't know if there were people, if they were friends or enemies, and I also didn't know if my brother was there, but I was finding out soon.
I opened the fence door and closed it again. I was alerted,
and looked around my surroundings.
With every step I took, I was nervous. "What if people were here? How would they react when they saw me? Would they be friendly, or would they kill me?." The questions filled my head, but I pushed them aside.I had to take that risk, even if my brother wasn't here, I needed something to eat.
I was walking a few meters until I heard shouting and saw three men holding their guns at me.
"Here we go," I muttered to myself. I raised my hands and walked slowly towards them, "Hey! Hey! Stand still!" one of the men with short brown hair and a bow in his hand said to me. Another man with black hair came near me.He looked more aggressive than the first man. "On your knees!" he shouted. I just glared at him and looked now to the third man. I wasn't going to kneel just because this dude wanted to.
The third man had also short brown hair and looked calmer than the other two. "I said knee, you bitch, I don't say that again!" the black head spoke again, I again didn't knee, and that was enough for the black-haired guy to hit me with his gun on my head, making me knee and holding my head in pain.
I was not going to show them how much it really hurt, so I bit my tongue and tried to stay calm. "That's not a nice way to treat a woman; didn't your mama teach that?" I laughed
I was looking at him. I think I triggered his anger back then, and he was about to hit me again until the man with the short brown hair stopped him. "Shane stop! We don't even know what she wants!" I held my head and tried not to make any sounds. I was in pain, and as I touched my head, I hissed, seeing blood on my fingers. "Really great, you dumbass," I said to myself.
"Why are you here?" Shane ignored the short haired man's words and was now holding the gun to my head. I said nothing, this asshole didn't deserve an answer from me, not now, and certainly not tomorrow.
Now the man with the arrow spoke: "Do you have a group?" I said nothing, "Look, you're making things a lot easier for yourself if you just talk to us." The other man with the short brown hair said, "Oh yeah, I would, but I don't want to trigger Mr. Anger issues again." I would like to be alive tomorrow," I spat. The man looked at Shane and pushed him away from me so that I could stand up.
"I'm Rick Grimes, the man with the arrow is Daryl, and you know Shane already."
"Rick, we can't let he-" Shane began, but Rick interrupted him, "we are going to talk about this later." Shane scoffed, turned around, and left, obviously pisst about Rick's decision.I looked at the two men and just nodded. "Ivy Roberts," I said, a bit angry, "we want to ask you some questions, but first someone needs to take care of that." Rick pointed at my wound, and I scoffed. "How nice of you," I said sarcastically as Rick started to walk away and said something to me, but I was too focused on something else.
I looked behind him to see something-well, someone, it was a woman with short hair. By her looks, she was around my age, maybe a bit older. As I locked my eyes with her, I felt as if I knew this woman. We looked at each other for a moment until the she turned around and left.
"What was that?",i asked myself.
I was pulled out of my trance when Rick snapped his fingers in front of me, "Hey, you're listening?" he asked. "Uh, sorry, what did you say?" I asked a bit confused, "I said that i will bring you to Hershel he will help you, and after that we're going to ask you some questions," Rick said, and I just followed him without another word.
We were almost by the door when I saw a group of people, a few were staring at me, and others were doing their task. I guessed that they probably watched the whole scene, and by the looks on their faces, I was right.
"Great," I thought. This was the first chapter of Down we go, I hope you enjoyed it and we'll see us again in the near future!
