Chapter 21 - Murder and Other Pains
I became vaguely aware of pain. Like awakening from a nightmare and finding all your muscles have clenched and knotted. But I couldn’t remember the nightmare.
Half awake I next became aware of the sensation of falling. Why was I...? Ohh yeah, that’s why... I was falling through the dimension gate.
The essence must be wearing off. I was still in the gate. I was still falling.
Ohh god, please not this again. Please don’t make me go through this again.
I thrashed around in panic until I realised that I was thrashing around. I had a body. I wasn’t part of the light stream. This wasn’t the start, the forever was over, the pain was over, I had a physical form this must be closer to the end.
Then something warm and familiar grabbed my hand spinning me around. I opened my eyes to find Joel smiling at me. His chocolate hair streaming up and flicking around as it stood on end. His eyes shone as he pulled me closer.
The pain and the fear vanished, he was here. He had me. He caught me. I was safe.
He held me and we fell together.
His eyes changed. I could see the anxiety in them as they quickly flicked downwards then returned to me. I glanced down. Below us, travelling very fast towards us was colour. Surrounded by white light the approaching blur of dark colours looked like a freight train approaching. It was terrifying but mesmerising as well.
Joel abruptly pulled me up into his arms and hugged me to his chest.
I felt him brace to meet this new dimension.
I closed my eyes and tightened my grip on him.
The shudder ran through my body. I felt Joel’s hands slipping until his fingers dug into me in determination. I clung to him, my arms locked around his shoulders. His knees wrenched up, nudging into my back, as he took the brunt of the impact. I felt the weight of being stationary slam into me. My lungs filled with air.
Then with a small bounce everything stopped.
Joel laughed.
I opened my eyes.
He straightened up with me still cradled in his arms. He was on his feet.
“How did you do that?” I asked remembering how disastrous my last landing had been.
“You might say that I have done this a couple of time before. So practice,” his grin was smug. “But this is the first time I have done it with a beautiful girl in my arms. So... how was it for you?” His eyes sparkled playfully.
I laughed at him, “I’m sorry Joel but your sexual innuendo and your DD cups don’t mix. I can’t even think about ‘that’ with you dressed as a girl.”
His eyes focused on me mischievously, “What happened to me being the only girl for you? I still can’t believe you said that. Way to kick a guy when he’s down!”
“Sorry,” I looked at him seriously but he was laughing at me.
“I think I need to prove to you how much of a man I am,” his eyes smouldered and he slowly released my legs and pivoted me so that I was standing pressed against him. Just as slowly his lips found mine and he lifted me off the ground as he kissed me passionately.
“Now how the hell do you get these things off, because I swear if I have this bra on for another minute I am going to go all cave-man on you.” With one arm around me he had already pulled off the long tunic and was now fighting with the bra.
