Chapter 36 - Don't Catch Me!

“Let her go Grant!” The words came as a hiss.

I had my hands pressed tight against Grants chest and my feet were dangling in the air.  His arms fastened me to his hard body as his lips were demanding things from mine that I wasn’t willing to give.  This was D-zero Cissy’s boyfriend not mine.  My boyfriend and the love of my life was standing fuming behind me.

“Put her down or I’ll kill you Grant!” Joel’s threat was cold and clear.

I fought harder.  Joel killing Grant wouldn’t end well for any of us.

His lips finally left mine.

“Let me go!  Let me go now!” I screamed as I struggled against his hold.

“You don’t love him.  How can you love him?  Admit it! All this was nothing more than a lie, the marriage, him being the father, the phony suicide.”

“Grant I’m not going to tell you again.  Put her down.  This isn’t who you think it is!”

“Shut up, you dork!  Why the hell did you marry him Cissy?  You went a married a library geek, a freaking egg head!  Sure he has bulked up since then but hell he’s still a douche bag.”

“Grant I am not your Cissy.  I am not from this dimension!  The Cissy you know is dead.”

“What were you thinking?  He could never make you happy... Dead?  What do you mean?”  He looked at me surprised and his grip on me loosened.

I twisted my head to Joel but his eyes were on the floor.

“What the hell is going on?”  Grant then looked at me like he was seeing me for the first time.  His eyes widened and he dropped me so that I stumbled into Joel.  “Who the hell is this?  That’s not Cissy.  Who is she?”

Blair sniggered from his position against the wall.  “You will have plenty of time to reacquaint yourself with this Francis King or should I say Asset 7024, Agent Weston.”

“What the Hell!  No.  I won’t have him anywhere near Cissy! NO!”  Joel was shouting again.

Stunned I tightened my hold over Joel.  This was the ultimate insult to Joel, they were holding me hostage over him but keeping me close to the only man his wife ever loved.  That was cruel.

“Calm down and sit down,” Blair voice was quiet but commanding. “Enough of this, let’s just get this over and done with shall we?”

I watched as Grant shuffled towards the table.  I noticed the pain etched on his face as he moved.  When he sat he used his hands to push his left leg into place.  His jaw tightened as he looked up and caught me watching.

“It seems that you remember Dimensioneer Joel Anderson, you are his case officer and will supervise his assignments and extractions.  And asset 7024, you may call her what you like but you are correct this is not Francis King.  She is an imitator from a different dimension.  She now belongs to the company. You will supervise her existence.”

“An imitator?” Grant looked confused. “Supervise existence?”

“Blair, don’t do this!” Joel growled through his clenched teeth.

“Joel brought her through the Dimension Gate so she now belongs to the company.”

“But who are you?” Grant looked at me like I was an exhibit in a zoo.
