Chapter 8: Recovery

Issei: "Rias"

The boy tapped on the red haired girl's shoulder as she lent him an ear.

Issei: "He's.."

They weren't sure what to say. The man held the corpses of his wife and daughter with a tired look in his face. He had stopped crying about a few minutes ago and now was sitting down.

Issei: "He hasn't moved at all. He hasn't said anything"

Rias took the initiative and walked over to the mourning father. She took a deep breath before kneeling down next to him.

Rias: "Mr. L/n? I don't want to a bother but I'd like to ask you something"

His eyes shifted towards the ORC leader who cleared her throat.

Rias: "Who did this? If you can tell me, we can help you bring down those individuals responsible"

Y/n: "You're.."

She noticed a hint of sadness in his eyes, but not from the previous tragedy.

Y/n: "You're still a child"

Rias: "Pardon?"

Y/n: "I'll handle them.. all of them"

Issei: "With all due respect sir, but you're in no shape to take them on. They are supernatural beings and you're just.."

Y/n: "You're a good kid. Make sure to always be like that.. The name Thanatos sounds familiar to you?"

Rias: "Thanatos?"

Akeno: "Greek pantheon. What are they after that they came to a human's home?"

Rias: "The angel and child.. Did he say anything else?"

He was silent for a bit before opening his mouth.

Y/n: "Greek pantheon? Where is that? How do I find it? And how do I get my hands on that Thanatos and his team?"

Rias: "He is an underling under Hades, the God of the Realm of the Dead. He isn't someone you can just-"

Y/n: "I've got all the answers I need.. You kids should stay out of it. I'd hate to see such young faces perish"

Rias: "We aren't regular humans like you. I am a devil, as is the rest of my peerage. Trust me Mr. L/n, we can defend ourselves"

I finally get up and lay my deceased family together on top of a table. I fill them with flowers that Ariel would plant as I light a corner on fire.

Issei: "What are you doing?!"

Y/n: "They needed my child's body.. I won't let them take it"

Their bodies are quickly engulfed in the flames as I feel my heart getting ripped out.

Y/n: "Those bastards.. They're mine. You kids go home"

I turn around and grab my gun while looking inside for more shells.

Issei: "Where are you going?!"

Rias put her hand out and fired a small magic spell to disintegrate the bones.

Akeno: "Rias-"

Rias: "Well handle Hades. For now, we need to watch over him so that he doesn't do anything stupid.. I feel for him"

Koneko: "Rias.."

Rias: "Yes?"

The cat girl walked shyly over to her as it seemed a little uncharacteristic of her.
