Sophie's POV
I looked around the 2nd floor of his spacious house, not finding anything that could be useful.
"Sophie!! I think I found something! Come downstairs!!" Fitz yelled. I left the room and headed downstairs to where Fitz was.
"What'd you find?"
"A calendar," I raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"And how does that help?"
"Because on the 19th there's an event written on it," I followed him to the calendar. I read the writing that was in the 19th.
"Club meeting. What club?" Fitz shrugged. "Did you find something else down here?" I asked.
"Not really. You?"
"I found a few suits upstairs in his closet, I just thought maybe he liked to keep a few in handy for a special occasion."
"Let's switch. I'll head upstairs and you continue looking down here. But what we found so far, I think this more than the murder of Candace Beyers." I nodded agreement and Fitz left the room. I found his computer and thankfully it wasn't locked. I scrolled through his emails. Nothing important but I was still going to keep it. I looked around and found something I didn't really recognize. An old telephone. It looked very weird. I took a picture of it. I doubt someone at John's age would've had something as old as that. Maybe Candace's theory was correct. I was going to keep it as well.
Fitz came downstairs a few minutes later.
"Find anything?"
"His computer and a very old telephone. I'm starting to think that Candace's theory wasn't a theory after all. I think it's time to pay a visit back to Brianna."
(Time skip)
We knocked on the door to Brianna's house.
"Brianna, hi. Do you think you could answer only a few more questions about Candace for us?"
"Sure, come on in," Fitz and I made our way inside and sat across from Brianna.
"About the Newspaper article, was she writing just to write or was she you know talking to someone, about getting her article published?" Fitz asked.
"She had never talked a lot about it," Brianna answered. "She was saying she was talking to someone but never mentioned the name. She had also said the person she was talking to had said her idea was ridiculous. But I never knew the topic she was writing about. Always asked but she had never said anything."
"Interesting. Was she emailing the person? Were they using an app or something?" Brianna shrugged.
"Once again, she had never said anything. She liked to keep to herself. Never wanted to let the word get out."
After a few more questions we thanked her for her time and left the house and made our way back to the station. Fitz and I met up at my desk and put all the evidence and clues.
"This is what we know so far. Candace, a lady who was found in the Niagara Cave River found by Rose Merr. Candace is married to a man who cheated on her for who knows how long. He also lied to Candace's loved ones about her whereabouts, which is why nobody had searched for her. Next up Brianna, Candace's best friend, gave us enough information to move on to our next person, John Bergs. A man who seems secretive, and to Candace's theory might be hiding something, something big. And lastly Candace. A lady who had died or been murdered by an unknown cause. John Bergs is her boss and had been suspicious of him. Her theory, John's living for far too long, but not looking any different. But by what we read she was almost close to finding out what she had been searching for, but then tragically disappeared for almost a week now only to be found yesterday." Fitz started.
"Correct. And we found a few things that had supported Candace's theory, such as an old telephone hidden in the back of his closet. Although we couldn't find a picture of him to prove this, maybe the telephone is enough. We also found his computer and a calendar with an event on the 19th which was in 4 days. John's apparently in a club, but which club, we still need to find out."
"That's why he had been acting weird when we asked his address. He knew we were detectives and by what we know so far, it turns out he does have something to hide. By the way he acted, maybe this club is top secret," I nodded in agreement, looking closely at everything we had on the desk.
"So you think this club has anything to do with Candace's death or murder?"
"Honestly, by what we have here already, maybe. John's in a club that's top secret, and he's a good friend of Candace. Do you think he would do that to her?"
"Maybe it wasn't him who did it."
"What do you mean?"
"If he's such a good friend of hers, he might've not done anything to her. But the other people in this little club could've."
"Don't you think he would've protested?" I shrugged.
"I don't know. Think about it, if Candace is right and John has the power to stay young, don't you think he would care about that more than Candace?" Fitz thought for a moment before nodding his head.
"Exactly. So all we need to find out is the secret club John's in, and thankfully John was stupid enough to write the address as well." Fitz smirked.
"Does that mean it's time to go undercover?" I nodded.
"Time to go undercover." I repeated, clearing up everything on my desk.
"You know I didn't realize how good of a team we make until this case," he said.
"Yeah, we are. This case is almost half finished, and we worked efficiently together." Fitz smiled. I saw our boss, Cindy Stalkholm walk up to us.
"Sophie, Fitz, how are you guys handling the case I've given you guys yesterday?" She asked.
"Great ma'am. Even though we've been working on this for 2 days, we're almost halfway through it," Fitz answered. Cindy smiled.
"Good to hear. Sounds like you and Sophie make one heck of a team," Fitz and I made eye contact, before we looked away, blushing.
"We do."
"Looks like I'll have to partner you two up more often. Thanks for the update," Cindy then walked away, a hand in her pocket.
"We're on a lunch break right now, you wanna go somewhere?" Fitz asked, leaning against the desk.
"There's this new vegetarian place that just opened down the street, wanna check it out?"
"Sure, let's go," and then the two of us made it out of the station.
