It was a hot and sunny summer day. "Boy, it sure is hot out today," says Nicole as she sat on the front porch sipping on some ice-cold lemonade. As Nicole continued to sit on the front porch she thought of many things she could do to keep cool. As the ideas popped into her head one by one there was one that stood out and that was having a lemonade stand.
Nicole's aunt Betty was one of the reasons why Nicole wanted to start a lemonade stand. That reason was that aunt Betty made some of the best lemonade in the family. After Nicole finished drinking her cold cup of lemonade she got up and ran to her grandpa Walter. "Grandpa, can you help me with something?" says Nicole. "Sure, what do you need help with?" says Walter. "I want to start selling lemonade and I need a stand, can you help me build one?" says Nicole.
"Sure, I've got some wood out in the garage, so come on let's get started," says grandpa Walter. The two of them got started, first that both found the perfect pieces to nail together. After the stand was nailed together, Nicole found a marker and a big piece of paper, Nicole figured that she would need a banner. "Grandpa, what should my sign say?" says Nicole. "I think it should be something that will make you stand out," says Grandpa Walter. "Hmm... for now I'll just call it " Nicole's Lemonade". "Sounds perfect," says Grandpa.
Once the stand and sign were made, grandpa attached the sign to the stand and carried the stand, and placed it in a shady spot in front of the house. Next, Nicole ran into the house to find aunt Betty. "Hey there you are, I need your help with something," says Nicole. "What is it?" says Betty. "Grandpa and I just built a Lemonade stand, and I was wondering if you could show me how to make some of your lemonade to sell," says Nicole. "Of course I can help you with that, let's get started," says Betty.
First, Betty gathered together everything she needed to make the lemonade. All of the ingredients included: fresh lemons, sugar, lemonade mix, a big punch bowl along with some plastic cups. Next Betty sliced the lemons. After the lemons were sliced Betty filled the punch bowl with ice-cold water. Then she added the lemonade mix along with the sugar, and she let Nicole carefully stir everything together. And once everything was well stirred together the sliced lemons was added last.
Now that everything was done the only thing Nicole was missing was customers. The first few minutes of sitting at the lemonade stand were slow, there wasn't anybody around. Next, all of a sudden people started coming from every direction. And finally, Nicole had sold her first cup of lemonade. The customer was very pleased, and when the customer walked away Nicole turned and gave her grandpa Walter and aunt Betty a thumbs up to let them know business was going very well.
Nicole had spent about three hours outside selling lemonade. And when it was time to close, Nicole had grandpa Walter count the money she had made. "Wow, you've earned yourself $17.50. What are you going to do with all this money?" says grandpa Walter. "Wow, I made all of that? I have had my eye on a pair of skates I saw at the toy store" says Nicole. "That sounds like a great idea," says grandpa.
