Chapter 18

Beep..Beep...Beep.. I slowly open my eyes and look around. "Where am I? What happened," I said slowly coming to.

"Juliette, you're awake," said a familiar voice. I feel someone rubbing my hand. Everything was blurry at first but I slowly began to see everyone. Libby, Mom, Dad, and.. Stepphano!

"What are you doing here, Stepphano," I staggered trying to get up.

"Juliette, stop. What are you doing," stated Libby.

"I don't want him here." I slurred moving my arms. "Why can't I move my legs," I said looking at everyone. "What happened to me!" The doctor comes walking in as soon as he sees me panicking.

"Juliette, I'm your doctor. Doctor Drock. you were involved in a  serious car accident. A truck's brakes didn't work and he slid on the ice which resulted in hitting and flipping your car. You had a concussion when the paramedics arrived. The weight of your vehicle crushed your legs. The chances of you walking again are very slim. I'm sorry," he said walking out of the room.

"I'll never walk again," I paused looking down at my legs.

"Juliette that's not true. The Lord will help you walk again. Just because this doctor told you; you can't walk doesn't mean you can't relearn it," expressed Stepphano. I ignored every word that fell out of his mouth in disgust that he was even here after what he did to me. I didn't know why he was here in the first place. I didn't want his pity. I guess Libby could sense I was irritated.

"Juliette, Stepphano has been by your side every chance he could get. He hasn't left your side unless it was time for visitors to leave. Even when it wasn't it was no more than a few minutes," she said giving him the benefit of the doubt.

"It's true," my parents say together. "We'll see you later Juliette visiting hours are almost over." I hug each of them goodbye.

"Juliette, I know I hurt you. I was lonely. I couldn't stand not being next to you, but now seeing you lay here hurt made me feel bad. I made a promise to God that I won't hurt you ever again," he said crying and holding my hand. As much as I wanted to leave him forever for hurting me God told me, "You two will fight way more than this. Mistakes are forgiven and you guys will grow."

I take a deep breath and pat him on the shoulder. Despite how I felt I had to trust in God. "I'm not leaving you Stepphano. This is one of our many obstacles." He smiles and leaves with my family. He rushes back and gives me a kiss. I close my eyes and go back to sleep. My thoughts were racing. So much happening and have happened it's becoming overwhelming to still believe in God. I feel myself begin to drift asleep.
