Kelly's POV

"Now I may be principal, which means I should be professional about this, but listen to me when I say, you two need to get your shit together!"

I jolt back in my seat as Principal Steinhold slams his fists down into his desk. I glance over to Kingsley to see if she gave any kind of reaction, but she looked as calm and collected as ever.

"Principal Steinhold-"

"Ah!" I shut my mouth as he cuts me off. "I don't want to hear any of it! Y'all have been walking much too thin if a line for my liking. Not only have you put yourselves in danger, you have also jeopardized the safety of this school and its students. Because of all of your little stunts, this place is crawling with reporters and journalists at every corner. Kids are getting bombarded with questions about you two, even some of the middle schoolers. Do you know how much pressure that puts on me as a principal? I have over 4,000 students to look after I can have all of your PR bullshitting on top of that. You two are marvelous students, I know that. I just don't get why you two can't act civil around each other. It's like y'all have this impulse to rouse one another. I'm not the only one who's noticed this. Pretty much every teacher and faculty member has as well. So, I've talked to the board, as well as Mrs. Beckenoff, and we've come to a solution."

"Which is...?" Kingsley speaks up for the first time, slightly surprising me.

Her eyes are narrowed and glaring right at Principal Steinhold. It was almost scary when you remember who she is.

Mr. Steinhold cleared his throat and set his hands up in his desk, folding them.

"You will be an official member of the student council. We made this decision because we figured that maybe forcing you two to work along will help you figure out whatever is going on between the two of you."

"WHAT!?" I exclaim. "But, how is that even possible? We already held poles for every Student Council position. There's no more roles to fill."

I'm stammering, trying to find a reasonable excuse to make Mr. Steinhold change his decision.

"I want to hear none of it. I am aware that all of the official Council spots are already taken. That's why I've decided to make Kingsley your assistant."

"With all do respect, sir, but isn't that the Vice President's job?" Kingsley asks.

"Yeah, Tory is the current VP, and he's been a big assistant to me. I don't see why I need another one." I chime in, hoping that maybe if Kingsley and I come to a solid point together he'll change his mind.

"Kelly, we already needed to ask for volunteer work for homecoming this year. What about all the other events?"

Principal Steinhold looked me in the eyes, half stern, half desperate.

"Well..." I trailed off.

I knew we could definitely use the help, but why the hell did it have to be Kingsley? It could've literally been any other kid that I would've taken. Okay, not any, but there was a huge selection of kids I would've been happier with.

"Exactly," he said pointedly.

"What about the news?" Kingsley pipes up. "If they see us together constantly won't that rile them up more than it already has? They won't know we're being forced to work together, just that we're constantly doing stuff together. People have already had plent of speculation regarding a relationship between the two of us, won't this just solidify their claims?"

I had to admit, it was a solid point, but there was also something else that she had missed.

"It won't matter either way," I say, turning to Kingsley.
