(Cats pov)
Another morning waking up in a cell, a grey cold room with the warmth of Aider at my legs, I feel her start to wriggle beneath me so I stroke her fur making her cuddle into my arm
"Mornin' my girl" I mumble to which she wags her tail we both get out of the bed
Carol, Cole, Lori, Rick and Glenn are sitting eating and chatting away and for the past few days I've been thinking Cole never got to see Charlie on his last days, he never even got to see his grave
"Cat" I hear his voice snap me out of my thoughts
"What?" I ask shaking my head looking over to him
"You zoned out" Carol states
"You okay?" My older brother asks
"Yeah, wanna go out today?" I ask and he raises an eyebrow
"We need supplies?" He asks and I nod my head towards the door to which he follows me
"I thought we could just do something, the two-" I start and notice aider following "three of us" I finish
"Sure?" He replies unsure
"Let me know when you're ready" I tell him walking back to my cell once I finished my shower to pack a bag and re-tie my hair when I hear a grunt behind me so I turn around to see those all too familiar sky blue eyes
"Where ya goin'?" He grumbles
"Out" I reply while thing my laces
"Where? With who?" He asks grabbing my arm gently
"With Cole" I tell him ignoring the first question
"You gon' be alrigh'?" He asks and I just look up at him
"Always" I tell him and as I'm about to pass him he grabs my arm with his huge hand pinning it against the wall his large body coming close to mine
"Come back safe, no cuts, no bruises, scratches, wounds, no fever, no cough, no bites, you hear me?" He speaks in a low voice
"I hear ya" I reply quietly looking up into his bright blue eyes
"Good" he mumbles and that's when I leave the cell Aider comes following me
"Ready?" I hear my brothers voice
"Yeah" I tell him as we leave the prison walking down the stairs
"Where we going?" He asks
"You'll see" I just reply
"I'm driving then" he states taking the keys from my hands to which I just grunt
"Drive ahead until we get to the highway" I tell him fastening my seatbelt and he just starts driving down the all too familiar roads we went down, we were cold, tired, hungry and feeling hopeless. Aider starts crying, her tail goes between her legs, her ears lower thinking. She remembers.
The same highway we lost Sophia, the car is still there, the supplies were long gone.
"You alright?" Cole asks looking at me
"Yeah I'm fine" I tell him
"Who's Sophia?" He asks me noticing my eyes locked on the car but I jump out the car walking down to the farm or what was left of it
"Sophia i-was carols daughter, this was where we were camped out for days she ran away from walkers we never seen her again but then we made it to Hershel's days later we found out there was walkers in the barn. Shane opened the barn she- they came out" I tell him my voice cracking and that's when Cole's eyes softened as we walk down the hill where the barn was once stood but all that's left is the remains of burnt wood, the house is now torn apart, the wells are no longer in tact, the fences all broken, a place we used to call home, gone and there's Walker bodies all over the ground and that's when I lead him to the tree where three graves are. Three large piles of stones we all places in memory and a hoodie that I placed on a stick, it was his favourite.
"Charlie" he says placing a gentle hand on the stick that has Charlie's name and date of birth carved into it
He speaks to the grave as I jump over what's left of the fence and grab him a rock he just looks at me with raised eyebrows
"We all placed one down as we said our final words to him, we done it for Sophia and Otis too" I tell him placing the rock into his large hands leaving cole for a second to be alone with Charlie
(Coles pov)
When Cat told me she wanted to go out alone I was confused but she's my little sister whatever she wants she gets
She makes me drive to a highway and I notice her staring at a car
"You alight?" I ask looking at her blank expression
"Yeah I'm fine" she replies
"Who's Sophia?" I ask her as we get out of the car and walk down a hill to what seems to be the remains of a farm
"Sophia i-was carols daughter, this was where we were camped out for days she ran away from walkers we never seen her again but then we made it to Hershel's farm days later we found out there was walkers in the barn. Shane opened the barn she- they came out" she tells me her voice cracking and that's when my heart drops to see three graves, loads of stones placed on top of the ground, sticks poking out the ground with names carved onto them and an all too familiar hoodie on one of them, it was his favourite.
"Charlie," I say placing a gentle hand blue fabric "I'm sorry bud" I apologise and I turn around to Cat to see her with a rock in her hand I just give her a questioning look
"We all placed one down as we said our final words to him, we done it for Sophia and Otis too" she tells me placing the rock into my hand and she leaves me to speak to him
"Charlie, brother I'm sorry I wish I coulda been here for ya, wish I coulda saved ya, wish I could supported Cat but I love ya, ya know that right? But I promise you I'll look after Cat nothin' is gonna happen to her, I got her now. She loved- loves you so much char speaks about you all the time. She's safe with me now and I know you're safe too, you don't need to run from walkers no more, you don't need to scavenge for food no more. But we're gonna keep goin' we're gonna do ya proud bud. Ryleighs are strong and you, you were a hero brother you saved Cat now it's my turn to save her. Everything I do from now on is to honour you, I love you Charlie I always have and always will you were the best brother anyone coulda asked for and I'm sorry for not savin' you from our dad earlier I tried but I really tried. I love you so much Charlie" I speak my eyes watering, my throat tight and dry the only sound is aider whimpering
"He loved you Cole always he is so proud of you" cat speaks quietly her eyes glossy
"He loved you Cat he's our guardian Angel now he brought us together" I tell her pulling her small body into mine
"I love you Cole" she whispers
"I love you too Cat," I whisper back "we just got each other now"
"I miss him so fuckin' much" she mumbles
"I know" I reply still holding her
