DEAREST DARKNESS

Dearest darkness
Who am I to you?
Can you hear my cries,
My screams, my voice?
Do you listen when I preach
Or even when I speak?

Dearest darkness
What am I to be?
Can you see my tears,
My wounds, my tragedies?
How dreadful you let me be
Chained and shackled in agony.

Darkness, my friend
My obsessive fiend
Leaving me be.
If you want me to vanish
Why not today?
Why not tomorrow?
For I am crawling slowly to my death.

I can't escape your grip
Can't reach the light
For you have pulled me away
From my hopes, dreams, desires, and wishes.
How can I make them true
If I'm blind and lost?
