(Sorry for so much of Sophie's POV, she's just easier for me to write. I think from now on I'm just going to write in her POV. Sorry to ya'll Keefe lovers lol)

~ Sophie ~

She stares at Keefe, completely lost for words. After three uncomfortable seconds go by, she realizes that she NEEDS to say something.

"I-I love you too, Keefe," she whispers, intertwining their fingers.

Keefe's face lit up and he oh-so-adorably grins. He begins to lean in, his eyes fluttering shut.

Sophie hates to do it. But she has to. For the both of them.

So she presses her pointer finger to Keefe's lips, evidently stopping him from kissing her. He looks at her, confused.

"I'm sorry Keefe," she says, wrapping her arms around her neck as he wraps his around her waist. "But..I can't do this. I want to, Keefe, but I just can't. I'm to marry Prince Fitz in four months and..no one will care what I really want."

Keefe's eyes flickers from confusion to understanding to desperation.

"Please, Sophie," he says, using her first name. "Just—no. I know that you have to marry him. But..can we just enjoy the time we have together? We could convince your parents, show them what a jerk Fitz is and—"

"You know they never will," Sophie says, a stubborn tear streaking down her cheek despite how much she tries to keep them in. "Their own marriage was an arranged one. They just got lucky that they fell in love instead of most marriages that never work out."

Keefe leans his forehead against hers, shaking slightly and tears streaking down his cheeks as they both taken in the realization.

They could never be.

She's due to marry the angry and insensitive Fitz Vacker.

He's due to marry some princess from a faraway kingdom.(a/n while writing this I accidentally spelled princess wrong so autocorrect made me say prince and I was like ayo 😳)

Their love is forebiddon.

But..isn't that what makes temptation so powerful?

Something that you can't have, making it so tempting that you just need to have it or you won't be able to survive without it.

Sophie locks eyes with Keefe.

Keefe.

The one that she wants.

The one that wants her.

He stares into her eyes, pulling her closer to him. Tears continue to streak down his cheeks as he talks. "I-I know that we can't be together, but..may I? Just once?"

Before she can talk herself out of it, Sophie presses her lips to his soft one. Keefe's eyes flutter shut and he tilts her head slightly to deepen it.

They pull away after a few seconds, breathing heavily. Keefe leans his forehead against hers.

"I'm sorry," he whispers, pulling away. "But before I go, I have one last question for you."

Sophie glances up at him, tears falling from her eyes like small rivers. "Anything."

He gives her the saddest smile in the whole world. "Will you be my date to the Celestial Ball?"

She smiles through her tears, blurrily staring up at the one person she can never have. "Of course, Keefe. Of course."

Keefe nods then and grabs his cape, which he at some point must have taken off. He rushes forwards and pecks her cheek. "Until next time, Foster."

Sophie can't help herself and tilts her head to make his lips capture hers insane of her cheek. "Until next time, Keefe," she agrees when they pull away.

He walks to one of her floor-to-ceiling windows, opening it slightly. She comes over to him and he glances at the ground below. It wasn't that far down but will still definitely hurt if you don't stick the landing.

Keefe gives her one last, longing glance before jumping out her window and running off into the night.
