"Are you still not being spoken to by Jake?" Jay inquired of Sunghoon, who appeared as if the heavens and earth had conspired against him."No," Sunghoon replied with a melancholic tone.
"Do you have any inkling as to why he's ignoring you?" Jay asked with meaningful intent.
Sunghoon let out a sigh, "That's exactly it. How can I woo him back when I'm unaware of the reason behind his anger?" he sadly expressed.
Jay chuckled annoyingly, "That's one of the reasons why Jake is angry at you."
Sunghoon furrowed his brow upon hearing his friend's remark. "Do you have any idea why he's upset with me?" he asked.
The school bell rang abruptly, indicating the end of the second period. Jay decided to tease Sunghoon a bit, so he stood up, flashed a grin, and left his friend alone.
Sunghoon was left stranded, feeling frustrated and helpless. He did not know what to expect from his friends, who seemed to revel in his misery.
Sunghoon found himself disoriented as he remained in the classroom, while others had already departed for their next subject. His lingering thoughts centered on the aloofness of Jake towards him, a behavior that began the day before. Despite his persistence in trying to communicate with his sweetheart, the latter remained unrelenting, and Sunghoon spent a restless night mulling over the possibility of a future union with him. The promise of celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, and other significant events together added to his state of anxiety. His friends, rather than assisting him, seemed to only exacerbate his agitation.
Sunghoon felt as if he was losing his sanity, contemplating incessantly. He stood up to proceed to his next class when suddenly someone called out to him. It was a beautiful and captivating woman. She seemed familiar, yet he couldn't quite recall where he had seen or met her before.
The woman approached him with a charming smile. "Sunghoon, how have you been? I had such a wonderful time with you last night. Let's do it again, shall we? I never expected that we would meet again since our senior high school days. You haven't changed, even more handsome now," the woman spoke at length, leaving Sunghoon bewildered and slightly apprehensive. He couldn't find the words to respond as he processed her words.
What did we do last night? Senior high school? Who is this? These were the questions swirling in Sunghoon's mind, trying to make sense of the woman's words.
"Oh, you're still as cold as you used to be. Well, I have to go now, I might be late for my class. Anyway, you have my number in your phone book, just text me whenever you have free time, okay? Bye, Hoonie," the woman said before kissing his cheek and making her exit.
He touched his cheek where her lips had left their mark, holding it in a daze. He never expected the woman to do such a thing.
As Sunghoon regained his composure, he attempted to proceed on his interrupted path when he caught sight of a familiar figure in the distance. His eyes widened, and he felt as if he had been doused in cold water. His heart couldn't still itself, as if to burst from his chest, as he choked back the urge to wail in despair. Jake was standing there, some distance away, tears streaming down his face.
Before he could even take a step forward, Jake had vanished into thin air.
The sight of Jake in such a state pained Sunghoon deeply. Above all else, he abhorred being the cause of his beloved's tears, as it was an affliction he fervently wished to spare him.
They had not yet had the opportunity to engage in a proper conversation, and now matters had descended into further disarray, exacerbating the turmoil within Sunghoon's soul.
They are college students here.
