Walking The Line

Chapter 1

Author's Note: The flashback of what happened to Trina will be in italics. Also this is my first GH fanfic so bare with me please.

It was chaos inside General Hospital as a stretcher carrying a young woman came wheeling in with lightening speed. The young man who came with her ran to keep up with it.

"Oh God please let her live," whispered a teary eyed Spencer Cassadine as he made his way through the hospital with hopes that the love of his life, Trina Robinson, would survive.

Spencer's grandmother, Laura Spencer Collins, arrived there as well & quickly hugged her grandson as soon as Trina was wheeled into an elevator so she could go up to the surgical floor & be operated on.

"What happened? Is she going to be OK?" Asked a frantic Laura as she looked into Spencer's eyes.

She could see all the emotions there in his face. The fear. The anger. It was all there.

"I don't know, Grandmother. I really don't know if  Trina will be OK, but I do know what happened," said Spencer as he felt the tears roll down his handsome face again.

Then it all came back to him as he & Laura sat down, & he explained all.

Flashback:

Spencer was sitting in the house that had belonged to his father Nikolas staring at the barrel of a gun. A gun that was being aimed at him by the mother of his baby brother Ace, Esme Prince.

"How dumb do you think I really am, Spencer? Did you seriously think I was going to let you leave me for Trina? Did you think I would let you take my son away & give him to your father? You pathetic son of a bitch," Esme said as she held the gun straight at his face.

Spencer stared at the emotionless woman in front of him, knowing that at any minute the police would be there to save him. He had her confession recorded on a cell phone that he had hidden in the inner pocket of a jacket that he had hung up on the very chair he was sitting on.

"Yes, Esme, I do think you're dumb. You seriously thought that you could play on Portia Robinson's hatred of me to break Trina & me up? You thought that by having a child with my father that you would be set for life? Give me a break, bitch. I love Trina, & she loves me. You can't tear us apart," said Spencer.

Esme could feel the anger coursing through her as she heard Spencer declare his love for Trina. She couldn't take it anymore.

However, it turns out that someone else had heard what Spencer had said.

Trina was hiding in a coat closet near the door when she heard Spencer say that he loved her.

"I love you, Spencer," she whispered as she watched through a crack in the door at the situation that was happening.

Then she heard the door get bashed down.

"FREEZE!! DROP THE GUN!! HANDS UP!" Yelled Port Charles Police detective Marcus Taggert as he came in with his gun drawn & a group of officers with him who also had their weapons out.

Esme, however, refused to do what she was told. She got behind Spencer & placed her gun to his temple.

"No," said Esme defiantly. She then aimed her gun at Marcus, which caused Trina to freak out.

"Don't do it," she whispered as she watched from inside the coat closet, trying to resist the urge to burst out.

However, as soon as she heard Esme was about to pull the trigger, Trina couldn't help herself. She couldn't let this evil woman hurt the ones she loved.

Trina came screaming out of the closet & quickly got in front of Marcus as Esme fired her gun.

Then there was silence.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" Screamed Spencer as he shoved Esme to the ground & went straight to Trina, who had been shot in the shoulder.

He held her close as she bled from her bullet wound.

"I love you, Spencer," Trina whispered as she passed out in his arms.

Spencer then began crying as he held the woman he loved in his arms.

Meanwhile, Marcus had called for an ambulance & had his officers promptly arrest Esme. Another officer had found baby Ace crying in his room.

The next thing Spencer knew, Marcus had put his hand on his shoulder & was smiling at him.

"Detective Taggert?" Asked a fearful Spencer.

"It will be all right, Spencer. You can trust me on that," he said reassuringly as the ambulance arrived quickly, & Trina was loaded into it with Spencer by her side.

"So what's going to happen to Esme?" Asked Laura after hearing from Spencer what had happened.

"She's going to be charged with kidnapping & attempted homicide. Ace is going to be living with my father in England where I'm sure his name will be changed," said Spencer with a bit of chuckle.

Laura nodded & smiled at her grandson.

However worry for Trina caused her smile to fade, & the sight of Trina's mother Portia Robinson made Laura angry.
