15 days until summer break
Sunday - Race Day - Zandvoort, The Netherlands

After talking to Mia all night– I overslept and arrived at the track late. Mia had listened to me venting about Charles and Max. Afterward, she spoke about her recovery and how the pain sometimes made her unable to sleep– she was grateful I called her.

I ran through the paddock until I reached the Ferrari garage, hoping my brother had not noticed my late arrival. I searched for him while slowly catching my breath. I needed to talk to him; I didn't want him to get in the car once more when we hadn't spoken since Thursday.

Charles stood on the grid– with Max.

It painted a picture already known so well to the world; Max stood in front of Charles, and my brother readjusted the straps on Max's helmet. Except this time, the roles were reserved, and Max helped Charles with his helmet.

I did not hear what– or if– my brother said something to Max, but the face of the Dutchman twitched with a tad of nervousness.

"Max, can you help me with my helmet?"

He nodded, surprised, turned around, and leaned a bit forward to grab the straps of Charles' helmet. For a second, their eyes met when Max looked up, but the kindness that normally carried within the green of the Monegasque's eyes was nowhere to be found.

"Didn't I tell you to stay the fuck away from my sister?"

Max's eyes immediately fell to his hands as he finished adjusting the straps. He gulped nervously and licked his lips as he took a step back.

I chuckled within myself, seeing Max act so nervous around my brother. All of his words, claiming not to be afraid of Charles, seemed really empty right now.

But the chuckle died on my parted lips when I noticed the number of eyes on me and noticed how the volume of the whispers went even softer as if they were scared I might hear them. Unease started settling in, and I felt a lump in my throat. I tried swallowing it away, but the attempts only made it worse.

My chest tightened together, my throat only got drier with the passing seconds, and my head couldn't think of any reason why they were looking at me like that or why they were whispering around.

I turned around and started walking towards the Ferrari hospitality; I needed to get out of there before I couldn't breathe anymore.

"Don't get too lost this time."

I immediately stopped walking and turned to where the sound came from; Lando was readjusting his race suit, leaning against a tree between my final destination and the McLaren hospitality.
