Daniel was trembling with nerves; he could barely hold it together when Heidi walked up to him, ready for their pit walk together.
"Max... don't you need to do a pit walk, too?" He asked, and I had never heard him more nervous. Heidi must have been picking it up.
"No," I shook my head. "I don't do pit walks. You've got this, mate. It's your home Grand Prix; stop being nervous."
The Australian sighed, then nodded and turned to his girlfriend, "Let's go together."
Heidi smiled sweetly and nodded, too. She looked a bit confused when she turned to me, but they walked away together. As soon as they were gone, I walked to the garage.
"They are on the move," I warned Christian. "Let's set the plan in motion."
"Perfect. Let's get Daniel's car. Do you prepare the board?"
"Yes," I walked to the back of the garage, and I saw our social media admin follow me. "Are you going to record it?"
She nodded, "Daniel asked me to shoot some backstage shots. Is that okay with you, too?"
"Of course," I turned to face the camera. "Hello, fans, and welcome to the exclusive backstage of Daniel's proposal to his girlfriend. As his soon-to-be best man, I am in charge of putting the board together."
I showed how the board was put together and then brought it closer to Daniel's car, but it was still well hidden for when the couple returned to the garage. Slowly, I started to feel the nerves getting to me, too. I didn't want to ruin Daniel's perfect plan.
His laugh was loud, the warning of their arrival. I kept close to the board as I watched how Christian greeted Heidi with a hug.
"Do you want to sit in Daniel's car? See what he sees almost every weekend?"
It was my cue to get closer, and I hid the board behind me and one of my engineers. Heidi accepted Christian's idea, and Daniel's engineers helped her step inside the car. They blocked her view, and I walked up to the Australian, holding the board.
"Okay, now, slowly sit down," Christian said, and we heard Heidi's soft giggles as she sat down.
"Danny, are you seeing this?" She asked, but couldn't see her boyfriend.
"I am!" He replied, kneeling down already and opening the little box with the ring. Cameras started shutting like crazy, and press officers started running over to our garage. For a few seconds, time seemed to stand still when the engineers stepped aside, and Heidi saw her boyfriend kneeling next to the car. Her eyes went from him to the board I was holding.
