Earth 42, Brooklyn (What else atp??)
When Miguel finally woke, he felt his face drenched in water, the upper parts of his suit damp too. His mask had been taken off, and a figure was standing over him, shielding him from the morning sun.
"The name's Porker, Peter Porker. Nice to meet ya!" the figure exclaimed, smiling. He reached out his... hoof, the cloven shape drenched in water.
Visibly shocked at the cartoon pig that stood over him, Miguel scrambled to try to get up from his slumped over, sitting position.
But he was stopped when he heard a series of "Woah"s and "Hey"s coming from the crowd that he now noticed was surrounding him.
Scanning the faces of the people surrounding him in fear, Miguel calmed down when he noticed he recognized almost all of them.
"Hey, Miguel," Jess calmly said. "Feeling better?"
"Not particularly," said Miguel, clearing his throat. "What happened?"
"We kicked your ass, that's what happened," came a voice from behind the crowd. They parted so Miguel could see Miles and Miles 42 fist bumping each other.
"2 versus 1, it was unfair," Miguel chuckled painfully. "Well I guess I owe you all an apology."
Miles broke into a fit of glitching in response, and the crowd cringed in unison. Miguel settled into his position, once more leaning against the wall.
Continuing, Miguel reluctantly said, "Uhh... I uhh... I was wrong about... the canon events."
"Oh, we know," said Jess, smirking. She was enjoying every moment of this.
"It turns out... the colliders are what's causing the uhh... disruptions," Miguel awkwardly chuckled.
"Yep..." said Jess with a smug grin, urging Miguel on to continue.
"I... I couldn't have known. When I took over from the other... me in earth 1042, I worked with a collider and... let's just say I used it a lot," Miguel said, questioning whether he should tell them about the elephant in the room, him literally time traveling. "So I guess that's why the world... collapsed."
"Mhm... Well it's good that you told us the full truth," said Jess smiling and reaching her hand out for him to grab onto.
Miguel gulped. The full truth. Maybe he would tell Jess later, but now wasn't the right time. Begrudgingly, he grabbed her hand, allowing her to heave him up onto his feet.
The group of spider people stared at him expectantly, and Miguel realized he hadn't really apologized. They were really testing the limits of his pride.
"I'm um sorry. Really sorry," Miguel managed. "For everything."
"Just what the doctor ordered!" exclaimed Peter B, clapping his hands together. "So, what now? How do we beat spot?"
Regaining his composure, Miguel straightened his back. "We have him spotted on Earth 1610... Miles' dimension. I guess we'll have to exhaust him of all the dark matter he's stored, and then... I don't know.
Hearing what Miguel said, Miles was reminded of how homesick he was. He couldn't wait to go back to his dimension. In fact, every instinct he had was telling him to snatch someone's watch and use it to send him home. But instead he waited, silently groaning as he was forced to continue to listen to this incessant small talk.
"Sounds easier said than done," said Peter B. "But we'll do anything together, right guys?"
He received no answer. Spidermen preferred to work alone, but they really had no choice. Mayday giggled at the silence.
Chuckling, Gwen looked over to where Miles was, as this was something they would typically laugh at together. But Miles' tall (at least to her) stance wasn't there. Instead, she saw him hunched over on the ground, in yet another fit of glitching.
"Miles!" She exclaimed, rushing over to his side and bending down. She placed her watch on his wrist, latching it on after the fit ended.
"You didn't have to do that," said Miles, smiling brightly at her before looking down at his new watch. It was something he had wanted for an eternity. Three entire days in fact.
Miles' smile was contagious, and Gwen felt herself calming down because of it. For some reason, it made her forget about all of her problems, even if it was just for a short moment. When he smiled she felt warmer and more comfortable, like she was welcome. Gwen needed more.
Then, realizing that Gwen no longer had a watch, Miles worriedly looked back at her. "But what about you?"
"Don't worry, Romeo, I've got an extra," interrupted Hobie, causing both to stand up and step away from each other, realizing how close to each other they'd been again.
Hobie chuckled. "Sorry Miles, I would have given it to you sooner. But then I wouldn't have seen you lot fein for each other."
Blushing bright red, Miles and Gwen avoided eye contact with each other at all cost. Why did everyone always have to make things so awkward between them?
Gwen quickly grabbed the watch Hobie was holding out, attaching it to her wrist, all whilst giving him a death stare.
In order to avoid having to talk to each other, or Hobie for that matter, Miles and Gwen tuned into the conversation that was going on with the rest of the group.
"...And that's why claws are better than just sticking to stuff," stated Miguel.
"No, no, you've got it all wrong. Just use a robot like me, hello?" said Peni frustratedly.
"What? Why overcomplicate things, just stick to stuff, like Miguel said!" exclaimed Peter B.
"Who needs any of that when you've got biceps like these?" Ben Reilly smugly stated, flexing. His comment caused him to receive many glares, mainly from the women in the group.
The endless bickering continued, and Miles figured him and Gwen would have to be the ones to break it up. Finally mustering up the confidence to look at Gwen, they made eye contact, nodding at each other.
"Hey, guys? Hate to disturb your sophisticated and very important debate, but we've kinda got a supervillain to beat," said Miles.
"Oh, so you're calling him a supervillain now?" teased Gwen. So much for helping. Miles glared at her, causing her to laugh.
"Uh, right," said Miguel, breaking out of his previous trance in the argument. "Let's not waste any more time then."
He fiddled with his watch, a portal opening in front of him. The rest of the group followed suit, and Miles was the last to open a portal, needing a bit of help from Gwen. He was inexperienced, after all.
"We go together on 1," instructed Miguel. No one objected. "Alright, 3... 2... 1."
They all entered their portals, a familiar whooshing sound being emitted. But one spider person in particular hesitated from entering the portal.
He hadn't said goodbye to himself. He turned around from his portal, seeing the shape of Miles 42 walking away, his back facing him.
Jogging over, Miles tapped his counterpart on his back, causing him to turn around in confusion.
Miles 42 smiled as he saw Miles again. "Why haven't you left yet, hermano?"
"I was gonna say bye to you, but I think I have something you'd appreciate more..."
Miles held out his hand, something placed on his palm. Looking down at his hand, Miles 42 identified the object as a very special type of watch...
A/N: Sorry for the wait, I was just being lazy tbh. Don't really have a good excuse. Also I know this chapter was a bit shorter than usual, but I promise the next one will be longer.
Also, are we nearing the end of the story? 😱😱
