Shortly after that, we were escorted back to our dark stay, and the dark was like balsam to my hurting eyes. I carried myself toward my bed instantly, ignoring the people that visibly got lesser.

My hands work to wrap the blanket tightly around me, tucking myself into bed with the blanket covering half my face, a face that I'm sure is still covered in dried blood. But I ignore it, too.

My eyes shut themselves, enjoying the darkness. With my focus away from the outer world, I can easier focus on my inner world. I feel an exhaustion resting between my bones, a type of guilt drains my energy slowly from me without consent.

My overthinking nature replays the events before my eyes. Especially a moment where our time was up, and one player was just a foot away from the finish line. We had locked eyes, the loser pleading with the winner, but I couldn't do anything but to close my eyes and let him down.

He was so close, so close to having a chance in life. But it seems this path was destined to be his, and I believe that something better holds him now. Something more gentle than this life could ever be for him.

My body startled together by the short alarm buzzing. My eyes opened but I didn't lift myself from the bed or even acknowledge the entrance of the Circly's and Cactus.

„You have all made it through the first game. Congratulations. You're moving on." My lips mock him, grimacing and making ridiculous hand movements even though I know that he doesn't move a single muscle, yet I like to overdramatized things. „I will now announce the results of the first game."

Shortly after he finished, similarly like high blinking sounded around, and I already knew it's the original number changing to the present number. It's eerie to know how many people died that were just mingling around us.

It seems that it never comes to a stop, but once it did, I came to the conclusion that I'll be avoiding this screen and rather not know the number.

„Out of 456 players," Oh no! Don't you ruin my plan, Cactus!

255 players were eliminated," I have discalculi, so don't you dare doing the math for me.

And 201 players successfully completed the first game." Oh, damn you! Fucking cactus. I knew you were a little prick.

Gasps and panting can be heard in the silence. Everyone is shocked with how this little dream really was too good to be true. But this was true, it just isn't too good to be true.

„Mister, please!" A cry surfaced, and this was enough for my body to lift off the bed, looking toward the sad woman pleading for her life.

„Listen, I'm so sorry! I swear I will pay what I owe. I'll do it, I'll pay it all." She fell to her knees, and instantly, tears pushed out of my eyes.
