„Don't lie to yourself, Ray."
„I'm not."
„You are."
I roll my eyes with a sigh, looking away from a hurting Ali. We sat on a bed, mine to be precise. The glass shard I noticed with my eagle eyes is still invaded in his flesh, and the moment we stepped in our hall, I honed in on him like a hunter and attacked him with a motherly worry.
I look back to him with a soft expression, watching how he sat uncomfortably on the bed, his battered face scrunched in a constant grimace. My heart constantly squeezed with harsh needles as my eyes witness this painful sight, knowing that our time is limited, drastically.
My ears twitch as I hear him sigh, and my eyes dart up to look into his brown eyes that reminds me of dark autumn. „I know you want to be hopeful, but there is no one coming to treat me."
„But you won't die on me, Li." I insisted, determined to save him because I don't know if I could bear watching him die in front of me. I couldn't save the man that committed suicide, but I can save my friend.
„I will die anyway." He laughed humorlessly, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. His eyebrows constantly furrow, and his busted lips roll into a thin line. Shaky breaths escape his nose, showing that he's experiencing a lot of pain.
„Ali.." I whispered softly, my eyes almost watering as his words shook me like a lightning.
„I won't let you die, alright? Only one person can win here, Ray. Do you understand me? There's is no way for me to survive. Because I'll sacrifice myself before I see you die." He stared into my eyes while his lips move to shape words that are so sharp, they pierce right through me.
And I feel the aftermath of the pierce, because I feel a lump starting to form in the back of my throat. My mind doesn't want to see the truth in his words, it doesn't want to believe a single letter.
„You think I will see you die?! No, I won't." I snapped slightly, but I'm not angry at him, I'm angry at the situation. It's no easy one, and it's probably the biggest challenge the universe has ever thrown at me.
„You have to." His voice was just as hardened as mine, before he sighed and looked down. „I'm sorry, Ray. But with this glass in my body, I'm as good as dead. My fate has been decided, but you can still decide over yours, and I won't let you throw this chance away."
I wipe a salty tear away that dropped from my waterline, and I silently watch as he slowly lied down on his side, wincing after every wrong movement.
„I don't want to see you die." I whispered with a sniff, my voice a trembling line. I sat on my knees, and my eyes look over his broken form as if this is the last time I can look at him.
