Rin's head was spinning by the time school was over. No one ever shut up in the hallways, and not a single teacher had decided to keep work easy since it was the first day. Rin's backpack now had a stack of homework tucked beside her books and lunch. She was walking slowly back to her house, just wanting lie down and not do any more work.

Len was at Fukase's with the rest of their friend group. Rin had been invited but declined, wanting to get home and away from people as soon as possible. She was just thinking about stopping at the convinience store for some snacks before settling down to watch TV and do her homework when someone called out her name.

Rin turned around to see Miku waving and speed-walking towards her. The same girls from lunch, plus IA, were all walking a little behind her, deep in conversation.

"Oh, hi, Miku," Rin said.

"Hi!" Miku said happily. "Oh my god, we got sooo much homework today, did you?"

"Yeah," Rin said. "I remember why I hate school so much every time I go back,"

Miku laughed. "Right? Ooh, I'm having a study party at my house, you should come too!"

Rin glanced behind Miku at the group behind her. They would probably all be there, and she wouldn't get to rest... but it would be good to study, she told herself. Yeah, she just wanted to study more effeciantly. Plus, IA, who was a complete sweetheart, would be there, so nothing seriously bad could happen, right?

"Sure," Rin agreed finally.

"Yay!" Miku exclaimed, clutching Rin's hand in both her own. "I was hoping you'd say that! Guys!" she called over the rest of the group. "My friend Rin is going to join us!"

IA waved at Rin, who waved back nervously. She made a mental note to remind IA to not mention this to any of the Meme Squad.

"Alright, let's go! My house is just a block away, this way!" Miku said, directing the group down a side street.

Miku's house was spacious but not too extravegant. That was, until they entered Miku's bedroom. The walls were adorned with idol posters, polaroid photos, pink and blue collages, and sparkles everywhere. Clothes were thrown over the bed, desk chair, everywhere. There was a big pink beanbag on top of a fluffy blue rug in one corner, and a bookshelf with a TV in it. Video games were stacked into the remaining shelves, and the ones that didn't fit were piled up on the floor.

"You need to clean your room," The girl with the side ponytail, Neru, commented.

"I like it just the way it is," Miku shrugged, pushing aside everything on the floor (there was makeup, jackets, books... jeez, how much stuff did this girl have?) so they could all sit down there.

Rin sat down between IA and Miku, oddly stiff as she tried not to disturb anything.

"Relax, Rin," Miku said, grinning at her. "Alright, so what should we start with? I was thinking math-"

"So, Rin, you're brother's Len, right?" The girl with the green hair cut across Miku, looking interestedly at Rin.

"Oh, um, yes," Rin said.

"Isn't he the one who set the microwave on fire last year in Home Ec?" The girl with red hair said.

"Oh my god, I forgot about that," Rin said, giggling. "He's set our kitchen on fire as well, it's definetely not an isolated incident,"

The girls laughed.

"I'm Gumi, by the way," The green haired girl said. "And this is Teto, and Neru." She pointed at the others. "And you know IA all ready?"

"We went to elementary school together, actually!" IA said.

"Childhood friends," Rin said, smiling at her.

"Oh, cool!" Teto said.

"So are we going to study or what?" Miku said. She had sorted all her papers into different piles by subject.

"Yeah, okay, Mom," Neru said, placing her phone face-down on the floor beside her.

Studying wasn't as bad with Miku and her friends. As airheaded as IA was, and as snarky Gumi could be, Rin found herself enjoying being in the company of these new people. They chatted about nothing as they worked, lending each other different colored pens and laughing when someone got a question horribly wrong.

Rin's phone suddenly buzzed, and she pulled it out to see a string on texts from her brother. Annoyed, she unlocked the screen.

Banana Bitch🍌: r u hanging out with miku????

Banana Bitch🍌: u never hang out with people u just met

Banana Bitch🍌: ur too antisocial for that

Banana Bitch🍌: did she kidnap u

Banana Bitch🍌: whats going onnnn tell meeeeee

Rin responded.

Rin Rin: its just for a study group

Rin Rin: has ia had a walkie talkie under her shirt the whole time how tf do u always know what im doing

Banana Bitch🍌: nah fukase and i saw u walking home with her and her friends

Banana Bitch🍌: r u doing okay??? i dont want u to be uncomfy there, ill literally come in and tell everyone that mom died and you have to come with me

It was a sign of just how concerned Len really was about his sister that he had offered that. Rin knew he was almost as scared of a repeat of the previous year as she was. He had seen how everything affected her, and she knew how much that hurt him.

Rin Rin: im okay dw, thnx tho

Rin Rin: ill be home for dinner

Banana Bitch🍌: ok see u later

Rin Rin: see uuuu

"Who are you texting?" Gumi asked.

"Oh, just my brother," Rin said, tucking her phone back into her sweater pocket. "he wanted to know where I was,"

Gumi nodded. "Alright, well I'm finished working for this afternoon,"

"You've barely finished two thirds," Miku protested, looking through her paper.

"I'll do them tonight," Gumi said. "I'm too tired right now,"

"Fine. Don't finish homework on the first day," Miku said. "I'm all done mine,"

"How'd you get everything done so quicklyyy," Neru said, groaning.

"I don't take video game breaks," Miku said.

"I'm done too," Rin piped up.

"Wow, Miku, you might finally have someone on your level," Teto said.

Rin blushed a little. "I doubt that," she said. She picked up her phone and checked the time. "Oh, I've got to get going, I'm supposed to be home for dinner,"

"Are you walking?" Miku asked.

"Yeah," Rin said, standing up and picking up her bag.

"I'll drive you!" Miku said. "My parents are on a work trip, so I can use their car!"

"No, that's really okay," Rin said, flustered just by the idea of being alone with Miku for an entire car ride.

"I insist," Miku said. She stood up as well. "Let's go!"
