Until You've Heard Me☆

The next week of school had almost gone by without incident. Rin ate lunch with Len and his friends, and only spoke to Miku about their homeroom project. Even then, she refused to talk any more than necessary. She tried to keep Gumi's words, and the video, out of her head. It wasn't worth her time, she kept telling herself.

That Frifay, the bell rang, signaling the end of homeroom, much to Rin's relief. Sitting next to Miku, avoiding her eyes, trying to pretend she didn't care, was nothing short of hell. Every time she thought of something funny to say, something that she had read about online that she wanted to talk about, she would turn to the other girl, before remembering what had happened and getting angry then sad all over again.

"Rinny," Miku said, pulling on Rin's sleeve as the blonde got up to leave. It was a sunny afternoon, and sunglight poured through the classroom window, catching in Miku's blue eyes like diamonds.

"Don't call me that," Rin said, pulling her sweater out of Miku's grip, not meeting her eyes.

"Please, just give me a chance to explain myself," Miku begged. "I'm not asking you to forgive me. Just to hear me out,"

Rin felt something pulling in her chest. It was hard to say no to Miku when she looked at her like that.

The class was entirely empty now. Everyone else had left for the quick break before next class. Miku and Rin stood there, looking at each other in the sun-flooded room.

"Don't make this any harder than it has to be," Rin said, leaning against the chalkboard and sighing. "When do you plan on giving up?"

Miku stepped closer to Rin, so they were only a few feet apart. "I can't give up until you've heard me,"

Rin closed her eyes and put her head back. "I don't know what you expect to change, Miku,"

"I don't either," Miku whispered. Rin opened her eyes, and Miku's face was only inches away from hers. She could feel her cheeks turn pink in spite of herself. "But I want to find out,"

All of Rin's rational thinking skills flew out the window when Miku slid a hand onto her waist. Their mouths were barely an inch apart, so that if Rin tilted her head just a little bit, they would meet. Miku's other hand came up to Rin's face, where Rin brought her own to touch Miku's fingers.

"Please, Rinny," Miku breathed. "Meet me at my house tonight at ten. I promise, I'll give you every answer you're looking for,"

Rin told herself to say no. To just be done with this drama, with this girl. But Miku's breath was hot against her cheek, and her eyes pleaded with Rin, wanting her to hear her out.

Rin nodded. "Okay," she whispered back.

Miku smiled, her huge, genuine smile that made Rin smile just a little too. "Thank you," Miku said, rubbing circles on Rin's cheek with her thumb.

For just a second, Rin thought Miku was going to kiss her, and she wanted her to. She wanted Miku to kiss her and make her forget about everything that had happened between them, about the stupid video, about stupid Gumi, so that there was nothing but the two of them, existing in this empty classroom together, the outside world just a bad dream.

The bell rang, and Rin could hear people walking in the halls. Miku took a step back just before people entered the classroom for their next lesson.

"I'll see you tonight, Rinny," Miku said, smiling at the blonde as she walked out of the classroom.

Rin didn't even nod, or reply. After a minute, she mentally shook herself, then scrambled out of the room, realizing she was late for Math.

Rin splashed water on her face, trying to calm down. It was nine p.m. Only an hour until she was going to meet Miku. She was wearing light green shorts with a white tank top and a pink cardigan buttoned up over it. She kept brushing her hair, knowing as soon as she stepped out into the windy evening it wouldn't matter.

At nine-thirty, Rin made her way downstairs, where Len was watching TV and eating chips. He turned around at the sound of her footsteps on the stairs.

"Are you going somewhere?" Len asked.

"Yeah," Rin said, pulling on her sneakers.

"It's late," Len said, pointing out the window. "Can't it wait?"

"No, sorry," Rin said shortly, grabbing her house keys from the table beside the door.

Len sighed. "You're going to meet Miku, huh?" He said.

Rin didn't answer. There was no point denying it; Len could tell when she was lying, and plus, where else would she be going this late? Rin was always at home after five.

"Just keep your location on, okay?" Len said.

"You're not going to try and stop me?" Rin asked, surprised. This seemed like exactly the kind of thing Len would encourage her not to do.

"You know what you need to do. I should stop getting in the way of that," He said. After a second, he looked a little taken aback. "Woah, I just had a philosophical moment right there,"

"Congrats, Aristotle," Rin said sarcastically.

"Who's Aerosol?" Len asked, looking at his phone. He had the hit the call button on Fukase's contact, and was now drumming his fingers on the couch armrest as he waited for the other to pick up.

"What," Rin could hear Fukase's slightly statically voice through Len's phone,

"Bro, you will not believe the real deep shit I just told Rin, I think I was just enlightened by the heavens," Len said excitedly.

Rin stifled a laugh, and turned the doorknob. The cool night air hit her skin as she stepped out into the street, everything appearing calmer in the darkness. She started off down the street, making her way to get the answers she wanted.

Don't let anyone else tell you what you are, Rin reminded herself. That was something only she could do, and she wasn't going to forget it this time.
