Once Chrys finished pulling Lightning to town and hooking him up to Bessie she left for the desert. There was a dirt track out there that she uses to run, she got herself ready as she stepped to the starting line.
Chrys felt the dirt under the pads of her taloned feet before closing her eyes, taking deep breaths, focusing on the environment around her. Then she took off like a bullet from a gun.
She ran so fast and felt so free as she ran the track. Soon she skidded to a stop after a few laps, she picked some cactus pads and used her claws to cut off the spikes.
Chrys sat in the sun as she ate the cactus pads. They were an acquired taste to many, but to Chrys over the years the cactus became a deliciously. She would have lost track of time if not for the citizens of Radiator Springs joining her.
She looked confused as Doc and Lightning lined up at the starting line and Sheriff laid down some rules, so Chrys asked the closest car to her about what was happening.
"Hey, Flo, what's happening?"
"Doc said that if the race car wins the race, he'd fix the road." Chrys knew Doc's secret, that he was one of the best racers to ever live. But after his crash, he never raced again.
"Him against Doc? On my dirt track?" Everyone knew Chrys was the only one to use the track for her daily exercise. She was particular about who uses it for what.
"Chrys, why don't you join us?" The creature walked over and stood with Doc as Luigi was about to start the race.
"Is this a good idea?"
Lightning got cocky as Chrys scraped the dirt with her claws. "What? You scared you're too slow?"
Chrys glared and looked forward as Luigi waved the flag to go, but both Doc and Chrys didn't move from their spots at the starting line. "Doc, Chrys, the flag means go. Remember the flag? Here we go. Go."
"See you back in town guys." Chrys then walked back to town while turning to her human form. She got some food from Flo's and went to the Cozy Cone. Of course, Lightning noticed her as Mater drove passed while towing him.
The others were with them as they were coming back. "Can I ask you guys something? What's with Chrys?"
Sarge glared at Lightning as he moved to face the race car. "What do you mean by that?!"
"You know, where did she come from? What is she? Who is she? I've never seen a creature like her before." Filmore answered as he and Sarge left the group.
"She's a gift from the cosmos, man."
Flo gave her opinion next. "She's a sweetheart, with a hint of sass."
Next was Luigi and Guido. "Chrys is uh...we don't really know. She won't say anything when we ask except 'I am Chrys.'"
Ramone nodded in agreement. "Yeah, dude, she says nothing. Like she's keeping a secret."
Sheriff was next as he watched Mater hook Lightning up to a road scraper. "She showed up one day out of the blue. Doc took her in, and Sally practically raised her. She's real protective of those she cares about."
Lizzie drove by and told Lightning her knowledge as Red went to the firehouse. "She's an ancient creature. An adolescent from her size, her kind were known to be strong and fierce, Chrys helps me when I forget things."
"Well, I think Chrys is pretty nice. She's a real nice girl, helps around a lot, runs at that old dirt track you raced on, and Sally's adopted daughter." Mater left as McQueen started to scrape up the messed-up road.
Chrys sat in her nest as she ate her food and drank some water. She was tired and wanted to go to bed early tonight.
"Some race. He fell into a cactus ditch after you left." Sally came in and joined Chrys as the creature finished her food.
"Wish I could've seen it. It better not be the cactus patch I eat from." Chrys wrapped herself in a blanket burrito and curled up as she yawned.
"It wasn't, now get some sleep. You seem to need it."
