Next morning, Chrys got up and went to Flo's for some water and breakfast. She took some fruit and dried meat before leaving for her dirt track. She went back to town and saw everyone at Flo's. Including Lightning.
"What did I miss?"
McQueen turned to look at Chrys as she sat down crossing her legs. "Did you know Doc was a famous race car?!"
Chrys shook her head and rolled her eyes. "I doubt it. So, drop it."
"But-!" Chrys gave a glare towards Lightning. "Drop it!"
Her voice echoed around and startled everyone at how loud she could really be. Even Sarge jumped at how loud her yell was. Her usually quiet demeanor was what they were all used to, not her shouting.
Sally then started one of the gas machines and fueled Lightning up. "Hey, hey! What are you doing?!"
"It's okay, Sheriff! You can trust me, right?" Sally tried to assure Sheriff, but it didn't seem to work. "I trust you, alright. It's him I'm worried about."
Chrys ate her food as she listened to the adults talk. It was strange that her mom was taking an interest in the racer, she thought her mom hated him. She trusts him?
"I trust him. Come on, let's take a drive." McQueen was confused as Sally said this. "A drive?"
"Yeah. A drive. Don't you big city race cars ever just take a drive?"
"Uh, no. No, we don't."
Once Lightning was fueled up the machine stopped, and Sally drove in one direction while he stared at the route to the interstate. With how he was staring, everyone thought he might escape.
Sheriff turned on his siren's light and Chrys' eyes swapped out for her real ones.
"Hey, Stickers! You coming or what?!" Lightning then started to follow Sally and Chrys and Sheriff went back to their relaxed state.
"Mhm, and you thought he was gonna run." Flo commented as Chrys made her way to Doc's forbidden garage, since she was the only one aloud in there.
"Doc? You okay?" Chrys saw him watching the towns folk through the window, she knew he was upset. His secret was revealed by a rookie and his fellow citizens didn't believe it.
"I'll be fine. Grab those tires, we're going to your dirt track." Doc drove out of the garage and Chrys followed in her true form while carrying four tires, a wrench, and some bolts.
The two made it out to the track and Chrys helped Doc put the racing tires on, when she was done the creature walked over to her normal cactus patch and took a few of the cactus pads.
Chrys removed the spines and started eating as she heard something. She turned her head to see a tractor and Lightning trying to herd it. But Doc called Chrys over before she could go ask why the rookie was there.
"I need someone to go against." Chrys kept her smaller limbs close to her body as she clawed at the dirt to get a grip to push herself into a run.
Doc moved his tires, so he'd get the feel of the track and get his own grip. This was something both he and Chrys would do together sometimes, they'd race each other. It was like a good bonding experience between the two, even if they had one when Doc found Chrys.
Like they were Grandfather and Granddaughter.
Doc revved his engine and Chys huffed through her four nostrils, her tail lashing at the chance to feel the freedom of running again.
And after a few seconds, the two took off tearing down the dirt track. While Doc was fast, Chrys seemed faster with her claws digging into the dirt and her flexible spine allowed her to stretch out her body to its full length with each stride.
