"Let's go sit outside and enjoy the weather, eh?" Scarlet suggested and looked out of a window before we passed it on our way to the main entrance/exit. We had finished school for today and none of us had any plans for later. No life is good life.
I shrugged. Cole shrugged. It was settled.
Unfortunately, we weren't the only ones who had had the brilliant idea of going outside because of the nice weather. People sat on all the benches we passed by in hopes of finding an empty one. A guy with too much hair gel in his hair sat in the middle of the asphalt and played guitar. A small group of people sat around him and listened. There were small groups of students sitting everywhere. "How come there are so many people on school ground after school? The majority are supposed to hate school and have an urge to leave as soon as possible," I said rolled my eyes.
"Perhaps you are rubbing off on them with your attitude towards school?" Cole said teasingly. Scarlet huffed. "Nope, she is too anti-social for that to even be considered a possibility" Such great friends I have.
"Hey, what is wrong with being anti-social? I'm lovin' it" I said and hummed the tone from McDonald's. They laughed, and suddenly I remembered there was one place we hadn't looked. "Oh, I have it! Follow my lead!" I said and faked taking on a pair of sunglasses.
I had always wanted to do that.
Then I ran towards the football field and just as I had hoped, the school team wasn't practicing. We catched our breaths and then noticed that instead of football some had gathered and were playing something else – soccer, I realized after I saw the two new goals and the t-shirts and shorts the players had on. "When did people start to play soccer here? I didn't even know our school owned soccer goals until now?" I groaned when realization hit me. "And now we can't sit here either if we don't want to be shot down by flying balls"
Cole pointed at the bleachers. "Can't we just sit up there? At least it is a bit quieter here than sitting beside Mr-too-much-gel-in-his-hair and hear him play in front of his giggling girls."
We spread my cardigan and Cole's jacket on the place we wanted to sit and Scarlet took a box of fruit up from her bag. Her dad always made her a lunch box full of cut fruit. When he realized that she shared it with Cole and I, he just made an extra-large lunch box for us all to eat. His dad was just the sweetest.
While munching on strawberries we watched the team play soccer on the field. Even though none of us actually interested us much for soccer, we thought they played quite well.
"Wauw, he scored again!" I exclaimed and pumped my fist through the air. "That was his sixth score! Damn, that was awesome!" The guy who had scored seemed to laugh with his friends, and I couldn't help but notice something very familiar about his hair. His brown hair that seemed almost golden in the sunlight. Not to mention unbelievably soft.
Cole and Scarlet chatted away while I sat and looked at the guy playing. It was just fascinating. To be honest I didn't really know the rules of soccer and how to play it but the way that guy handled the ball and graciously moved, dodged, ran and kicked gave me the impression that he was pretty good at it.
I took my sketchbook up from my bag and my pencil and began to sketch the boy without thinking so much about it. I easily got lost in it and sometimes found myself in the middle of the night wondering why I hadn't gone to sleep yet.
But before I was done I was interrupted by a group of boys and girls who had gathered around the new soccer team, cheering them on.
