Fuck, that cannot be true. The Luck Fairies must really hate me that's for sure. The chances, I mean the chances of my neighbor to be Vance and his parents to be best friends with my parent should be absolutely zero!
I dumped down on my bed and groaned. I really wasn't in the mood for people to come over, especially not if it was inclusive Vance, I would much rather read my book, but apparently the world is not a wish granting factory. Which I was supposed to find out years ago.
"Wear something nice, a dress maybe? Okay?" I heard my mom's voice shouting all the way from downstairs. I sighed. If I could find a dress.
10 minutes later, I had put on a striped blue and white shirt with a blue skirt and my favorite hat. I really didn't want to like dress up so I just put on what I also would wear for school.
The doorbell rang and my mom hurriedly dried her hands with a towel and then opened the door. I heard someone squealing on the other side and then a 35-or-so-years-old lady enveloped my mom in a big hug. My dad chuckled and shook his head.
"Oh, gosh, May, it's been forever since we saw each other!" Look at you! You haven't aged a day since that time!" My mom grinned. "Well you shouldn't talk, Sarah! And Martin! So good to see you too!
Mom went and hugged Martin while my dad hugged Sara. Then I saw something on the doorstep. Or should I say someone. Vance was standing there with his hand in his pockets. His hair looked like he attended to comb it but then it had gone back to its previous stage. He had jeans on, a blue shirt and a suit jacket on and oh Jesus, what just happened to my brain?
He smirked and gave me a mock salute. I rolled my eyes, but then I noticed something under his arm. A book. A Harry Potter book. The exact one I gave him. My eyes went big. I looked at him and tried to ask him non-verbally: Have you finished it?
He looked confused for a moment but then said: "Yeah, well spotted, my ring is real silver", shifted the book to the other arm and raised his hand so that I could see.
I mentally slapped myself very hard for being stupid, thinking you could talk to people with your eyes. Then he laughed and pointed at me. "God, look at you face, pretty girl – priceless!" I rolled my eyes, feeling my cheeks getting hot.
"But, yeah, I have finished the book", he said while a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, making his cute dimple become visible. I smiled back and was about to say something when my mom pulled me to her side and said to Sara and Martin: "And this is my daughter, Aubrianna – or just Bree" I extended my hand toward Sarah who took it and smiled warmly at me.
"Bree, it's so nice to meet you! You look like your mother a bit, but your eyes look a bit more like your fathers."
"Nice to meet you too, Mrs Vance." I replied.
"It's okay, honey, please call me Sarah" she smiled. Then Martin gave me his hand and I shook it. We all talked a little bit there in the hall, until my mom ushered us into the living room.

They were all talking about people I didn't know and saying insider jokes, laughing and it was boring as hell. Vance looked like he also couldn't stand hearing more about a guy who did that and then a girl did that and then a man said bla bla bla...
My mom looked at my kill me face and grinned. "You can show Ryder your room or stuff until we finish talking and start eating, ok?"
Show him my room or stuff?! What is wrong with mom?! But now I had an excuse to slip away from the living room, where they talked about old times. I got up and didn't bother turning back to see if Vance was following or not, and went to my room.
From the sound of his footsteps behind me I knew he also was desperate to get away. I hestitately opened the door to my room. The only guy who had ever been in my room was Cole, and he was my best friend. So it was a bit weird.
I entered the room and said: "So this is my bedroom – it's not really special or anything..."
There was my bed with my fandom bedding. My nightstand with a pile of books, and my closet with flowers on it. One of my walls were covered in quotes from books, posters, stickers and small drawings of random things. The other wall was covered with pictures of Cole, Scarlett and me underneath a sign that said F R I E N D S (like from the tv-series Friends) and a few of my paintings.
Ryder looked at my room with a smile (It was weird not seeing him with his smirk, actually). "I reject that out of hand, Pretty Girl. It's an awesome room you have here."
I smiled, trying not to think about the fact that I was alone in my bedroom with Ryder without having anything to do. Therefore, I went to the window to pull the blue curtains apart because they were blocking the sun out.
He was examining my bookshelf, tracing his fingers along the spine of the books, with his head slightly tilted to the one side. That reminded me of the Harry Potter book he still had under his arm. "Was it good?" I asked curiously. Confused he said: "Humph?" I pointed at the book. "The book, you moron".
"Oh, the Harry Potter book? It was so amazing. How have I not read it before? It's good that I met you" He sat down on the bed and asked: "So, isn't this the part where you say it's good that you met me too, that you think I'm hot and everything and then you start make out with me?"
I stared at him speechless. How was he so cocky? "Whaaat? No! I mean, not that you're ugly but – I mean, oh my glob, and NO, I'm not going to make out with you – "
He laughed. "God, I was just joking, it's just too funny to see your reaction!"
"Hey! Not funny, Ryder" I said and slapped his arm, which just made him laugh harder because it was so pathetic.
