"Devin...wake up, sleepy head! We have archery lessons in an hour!"
Devin Henderson's eyes shot open. His eyes burned from the sudden brightness. He rubbed his throbbing retinas and tried to focus on the smiling figure standing above him in the overcrowded Hermes cabin- everyone else was fast asleep, give or take five people.
As his eyes came into focus, all the sleep rubbed out of them, the smiling face wreathed in heavenly light came to look like his girlfriend of a month, Eleanor Walsh, daughter of Apollo.
"You couldn't have waited fifteen more minutes?!" He groaned as he sat up.
"Nope!" She cried cheerfully. He sighed loudly and granted his girlfriend a kiss, then accepted her helping hand to his feet. .
"I was dreaming about you, you know," he told her quietly. She blushed, brushing her brown locks behind a tan ear. Her blue eyes sparkled.
"I dreamed about you too," she said playfully, "I dreamt that I beat you in a race to the mess hall for breakfast."
Devin, forgetting he still wore his pajamas, leaned in close to her ear and whispered "Why don't we got make your dream come true?"
Within seconds, the two demigods shot out of the cabin and down the small trail leading from the cabin area down to the mess hall. Eleanor was easily beating Devin, laughing wildly as she ran, her curly brown hair flying around her like a shiny halo. Devin smiled hugely chasing after her, heaving from the effort of running this early in the morning.
When Devin finally reached the mess hall, Eleanor was waiting for him at the entrance, not at all out of breath.
"How...do you...do that?" He huffed, hand over his heart. She grinned and planted a kiss on his lips.
"Called exercise, darlin'! You should try it sometime!" He shot her a sarcastic look and hugged her once more before she skipped off to join her siblings at Apollo table.
Still reeling from her touch, Devin went and sat down at the nearly empty Hermes cabin- he wasn't a son of Hermes, just undetermined. Sometimes he hated his parents- his father, Benjamin, and his mother, whoever she was.
He yearned to know who she was; everyday, he prayed that she would claim him. But all he had gotten in response was a creepy owl telling him that he'd be claimed after the Great Tragedy, after the dove flew into the camp, the sea sweeping in before it.
It sounded like a load of Minotaur crap to Devin, but it was all he had to go on. Needless to say, he spent a lot of time at Fireworks beach with Eleanor, watching the tide, and looking at the sky and waiting for the dove, and wondering what the Great Tragedy was.
