We were in a restaurant when I got a call from my vice president, Gerald.
"Good morning, sir."
"Morning, Gerald. Any problem?"
"From the tone of your voice, I assume you haven't seen the news yet."
News?
"What news?"
"I'd rather you see it yourself. I'm sending you a preview now."
"Sure." The line cut.
"Why did Gerald call you?" Zina asked.
"I don't know. He said something about the news." A sense of unease settled over me. Gerald's tone told me it was serious. And Gerald was someone who rarely showed emotion.
"Might be good news."
"I doubt it." I shook my head.
My phone beeped. I glanced at the screen and read the headline:
The Famous Lotus Enterprise Involved in a Sexual Harassment Scandal.
What?!
I opened the preview:
Earlier this morning, an anonymous source leaked an inappropriate video featuring two Lotus Enterprise employees. In the footage, one employee is seen struggling to break free from the grasp of a male colleague. Investigations suggest that Lotus Enterprise attempted to silence the case with money.
Is this what goes on inside Lotus Enterprise? Harassment and bribery?
I slammed my phone onto the table.
Zina arched a brow. "What's wrong?"
"My company is being accused of harassment and bribery!"
"Baby, you know how reporters are. They're always looking for dirt—"
I wasn't listening anymore. My mind raced. I had never received a report about any sexual harassment claim. What was going on in my company?
I dialed Gerald. He picked up on the first ring.
"Did you receive any reports about this before now?"
"No, sir."
"I need you on the first flight to Nigeria. I might need your help here."
"Uhh... sir?"
"Any problem, Gerald?" I wasn't in the mood for excuses.
"Well... no, but—"
"Good. I'll be expecting you." I cut the call before he could say more.
