"That's why he hasn't attended a single hunt since then," Lucas added, understanding the depth of Leuvis's calculated actions to provoke and manipulate us.

My breath hitched in my throat as my heart seemed to stop for a moment. Leuvis knew this entire time?

"I had already expected something like that," Lucas admitted, his mind deep in thought, and Y/N nodded in agreement.

"In some weird way, Leuvis is pretty predictable," they voiced their observation.

"That means.. he believes there is at least one person who knows?" I questioned, trying to comprehend the implications of Leuvis's manipulative tactics.

"It's hard to say.. it is possible, but when it's true that the accident happened years ago, chances are slim. He tried to manipulate you into seeking revenge," they explained, revealing the depth of Leuvis's twisted plan. "He wanted you to react impulsively, driven by rage."

The words hit me hard, making my stomach twist and turn, feeling sickened by the manipulation I had been subjected to.

"But I already expected that and stopped Oliver from getting in contact with Leuvis," Lucas interjected, trying to justify his actions.

"And you didn't tell me your true reasoning.." I said, feeling hurt and betrayed by the deception. "You said you didn't want me to attend because I was not emotionally able to. You lied.."

"Oliver.. I didn't. I didn't lie," Lucas tried to comfort me. "You were anything but mentally stable. Look how you are reacting now. Do you think you could have handled the complete truth back then?"

As much as it hurt, I knew Lucas had a point. I wasn't in a stable state of mind after the accident. My anger and grief consumed me, and I wouldn't have been able to handle the truth at that time. Even now, it's overwhelming. And I probably would have acted the way Leuvis wanted me: seeking blind revenge.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down, understanding Lucas's perspective, even if it was hard to accept. It's fine. I understand.

"Do you think Leuvis believes Oliver knows?" Lucas asked, his voice barely above a whisper, his worry palpable.

"I think he was sure back then that if Oliver knows, he would come for him and try to get revenge," Y/N began to articulate their opinion. "But now that nothing happened.. Either way, he thinks Oliver is a coward who didn't know about what was actually going on, or just really smart, waiting for the right time for payback."

Lucas exhaled suddenly, not realizing he had held his breath for that long, nodding in understanding. "I've feared that.."

"Technically, everything is possible," I summed up, acknowledging the complexity of the situation.

Y/N nodded, agreeing. "Yes, it is."

"Then we have to make a harsh decision," Lucas sighed, massaging his temple in frustration. "Oliver, you will never attempt a single hunt ever again."

"What?" My breath caught in my throat, shocked by the severity of Lucas's decree.

"As long as Leuvis doesn't know if Y/N told you any of the information, he can't plan his next steps. Until we finally attack, you are banned from any hunts. The same goes for you, Y/N. You died officially years ago. You are now just like me: a ghost," Lucas concluded, his reasoning firm and resolute.

The room fell silent as the weight of the decision settled upon us like a brick. We were cornered in a dire situation. There was no way back, no turning around, and no way out. Leuvis had ensured that.

And here I am: I had believed until now that we had everything under control, that we were one step ahead of him. But it turns out, we weren't, or at least not anymore. The realization was like a harsh awakening, leaving us grappling with the magnitude of our predicament.

"Our rebellion will be able to cope with your further absences during the hunts, just like in the previous years," Lucas reassured us. "You will form the pillars with me and support our team. You are the spinal cord, the solid foundation," he continued, drawing powerful comparisons. "We are the base, keeping the team together."

We both nodded, fully understanding the importance of our roles.

"Get some more rest," Lucas sighed again, his care evident as he ran his fingers through Y/N's hair.

"The mask," Y/N suddenly remembered, their eyes widening in shock.

"It's with Nigle. He is working on creating weapons that can destroy the masks," Lucas reassured them, and Y/N relaxed a bit, nodding in relief.

"That's great.." They smiled faintly and closed their eyes, clearly exhausted.

"Thank you.." Lucas spoke up once again, and Y/N opened their eyes slightly to look at him, confused.

"Why?"

"For being alive.. And you managed to get us the last missing piece to finally execute our plan," Lucas replied, a smile gracing his lips. "Please get some rest. Take your time to get back on your feet. We have enough time. Don't rush it," he reminded them sternly but lovingly, and Y/N nodded slightly in agreement.

"Love you too," they mumbled as they closed their eyes.

"Love you more," Lucas responded, his eyes filled with so much love, happiness, and joy. For the first time in a long while, his eyes finally had their spark back, but he knew they needed rest. He wanted them to get better and back to their old self. So he left them alone, closing the door silently.

"Can.. can I ask you a stupid question?" Y/N hesitated, their eyes not meeting mine.

"Always," I replied without hesitation, relieved to hear their voice again.

"Can.. we cuddle?" Their cheeks turned a deep shade of red as they looked away, embarrassed by the request.

My face mirrored their blush, but my answer was certain. "Of course," I said with a smile as I moved closer to them, settling down in the bed.

Though I tried to appear confident, inside, I felt like a bubbling mess. My heart raced, my face flushed, my legs felt like jelly, and my hands trembled slightly.

Carefully, I wrapped my arms around them, being mindful of their wound and avoiding touching it. I held them close, breathing in their familiar scent as their hair tickled me. It felt like home, knowing they were safe and sound in my arms, finally allowing me to relax. It was as if a heavy burden had been lifted from my shoulders.

Gradually, Y/N started to feel more at ease, leaning into my touch and wrapping their arms around my torso, burying their head in my chest.

The butterflies inside my belly fluttered, and I felt a sense of completeness. It was like the missing piece of my heart had finally returned, healing the ache I had carried for so long.

"Please, promise to never let go," they whispered softly.

"I promise," I replied, running my fingers through their beautiful hair, feeling a deep sense of love and protectiveness. In that moment, nothing else mattered; we were together, and that was all that mattered.
