It has now been almost two months since Lockwood's passing. George and I have gotten back to work. Holly has been coming on more and more cases, I'm proud of her. Even Kipps has been pitching in. Overall it's been going good, other than the fact that we haven't caught Freddy yet. In my free time I've been scouring the earth, looking everywhere. I will find him and when I do...I'll kill him. So if he knows what's good for him he'll hide.
Anyhow, today we're going on a case. It's our first case this week, our clientele has gone down in status, and frequency. But we're pushing through, it's what Lockwood would have wanted. George, Holly, and I are going to work a small time haunting in the city today. Supposedly it's a weak-ish type two, a wraith.
*Earlier in the day*
A younger woman, probably in her mid twenties knocked on our door around 10 AM. She came in clutching her arm, as if it was injured.
"Are you alright ma'am?" I asked as she walked in.
"No...I'm scared. There's a visitor in my house, I just barely bought it! And the previous owner said that there was no danger. But there is! A ghost! A horrid, cruel, gross ghost." She finished in a huff.
"I understand. How do you know? Can you give us some details?" I said while motioning to George and Holly.
She went in to explain that she was in the house working on refinishing the wood floors when it suddenly got cold, and ghost fog started coming up from the floor. She stood up a tried to leave the house when she got the feeling something was watching her. She said it was barely 10:00, and that she had all the correct protection necessary. We agreed to research the house and the haunting and make a decision by tonight. After our recent experiences we did through background checks on the house, the people, and anything strange within a mile radius. We were being extra precautious.
*Present time*
It's now 4:00 PM, George had returned from the archives with useful information regarding the house. Apparently 40 years ago an old man around 70 years old died when his wife found him cheating and shot him 3 times with a shotgun.
"Ooof. Nasty way to go." Holly said, George and I nodded.
Yeah. No kidding. Shot to death with a shotgun. Ouch, I thought to myself. We called the lady and let her know that if ok we could fix her house tonight. She said that would be great, so we finished packing up our supplies and headed off. She lives 8 or so minutes away from us, we grabbed a cab and hit the road. We reached her house by 6:30 PM. It was a nice house, it was partially under construction, but other than that it was well put together. We walked up to the door and were greeted by the lady. She smiled and invited us in, we made tea and told her our findings. It was now 7:00, we said thanks for the tea and biscuits and pointed her out the door.
"Ok. Let's do this shall we." Holly said while setting up our iron circle and equipment.
George and I started our check around the house. It would be mildly difficult to move around the hallway, as that's where she was redoing the floors, most of them had been torn up due to rotten wood planks. We got to work with the temperature gauge to make a control temp, so we would know when it's colder than it should be. It was all normal throughout the house. The only strangeness we encountered was in the hallway when it got mildly colder, and we could feel the slightest bit of psychic disturbance.
"Hey guys. Where are our flares? I can't find them." We heard Holly call from downstairs.
"What?! George? Where are they?" I turned and asked him.
He just stood there with a little frown and a very guilty expression.
"Georgeee..." I said while extending the judgment.
"I sort of...forgot to pack them." He said with a smile that was supposed to spare him from Holly and I's anger.
It did not. I smacked him over the head in frustration and Holly took away his biscuit privileges. He was not happy. But neither was I.
"Maybe we should abandon this job until tomorrow." George asked, Holly and I gave each other a look.
"No. We have the salt bombs, and if we get in trouble we leave. Immediately." I said with an authoritarian mindset.
"Let's do this." Holly said with a grin.
