after the breakup i had nothing to do, besides go to pubs and bars and either 1. get wasted or 2. pluck up the courage to get with a girl for the night. usually it was the first one, but tonight felt different as my eyes averted to this woman by the doorway of the bar.

she was captivating. her hair was down to her shoulder blades and styled to perfection, her auburn hair curling at the ends of the layers framing her face.

her eyes were enticing. i suspected they were a dark browny shade but i couldn't see for the lights. catty, long eyelashes adorned the tip of her eyelids. her lips plump and shiny, coated in a pink lipgloss. she was alluring.

she wore a long, cheetah print coat which disguised the clothes she was wearing besides dark blue jeans and a pair of black lace up boots.

i would definitely look like a twat next to her, in my black jeans, white shirt and leather jacket. the collar popped up and my sunglasses on indoors.

i tried keeping my eyes off her, knowing i couldn't walk up to her without being fully intoxicated. she was unbearable. there was no way i couldn't take a glance at her every now and then. when i went to the toilet quickly, i wondered whether she'd left or not. but when i came back she was still sipping her drink and laughing with her friends.

the booming music and lights in the floors disguised my loneliness. well at least i hope.

people must of thought i was some pervert if my hoping isnt good enough, staring at this girl. she didn't notice. her head was high but she even didn't look around the bar, only at her friends sat in the booth. my hand tapped the mat on the bar as i ordered my drink.

i felt a presence nearby and someone leant up against the bar next to me. it was her. she ordered a round of drinks and then took the chance to look around the bar. my eyes accidentally locked with hers. they were a dark brown colour, i was right. the look in her eyes was inviting somehow and i contemplated whether my feeling was mutual. our brief interaction was for sure brief, lasting 4 seconds.

she walked away and sat back down, slyly lighting a cigarette. she's fearless, smoking indoors. i'm petrified to even get a cigarette out before i leave the building.

as the night progressed, more of my money was wasted on drinks. more of my thoughts no longer sober thoughts. more of my time wasted sat in the same chair at the bar, staring at this woman.

people began dancing round the pub as some shite music played. i ached to speak to her, but i figured the only valid reason i could take her away from her friends would be to dance and i am not a dancer. how do i know? well, matt once informed me that my dancing was almost as horrible as jamie's singing. that is horrible dancing. the most i could do was a head bang or a slow dance. the dancing idea was now out the window.

maybe i just need to wait for the right song. a good ol' party anthem, not whatever crap everyone seemed to be enjoying. a number 1 party anthem, it'll sort out my nerves and give me some reason to walk up to her and awkwardly take her away from her friends.

but when the song comes on, how do i approach her? ill suggest theres somewhere from which i might know her? something to get the ball to roll you know?

i took a deep breath and looked over at her. the music still wasn't right but tolerable. i finished my drink and noticed she was looking over at me out the corner of her eye. she flashed her friend a toothy smile and let out a laugh that didn't look all that genuine. imaginary almost. her eyes seemed so very inviting once again. the lumps in my throat were so hard to swallow but i managed it.

come on. come on. come on. play it. the number one party anthem. i'll do it. just play it.

"oi wake up mate." i looked up sleepily to see a familiar face i recognised to be the bartender, slamming his hand on the bar to wake me up repeatedly. "we're closed now." he said. "eh?" my eyes looked out the windows to see the sun rising. "shit."

i am hoping theres enough no1 party anthem references :)
