prologue

-15th December- 9pm-

You steadily walk through the darkness, taking in the delicate sounds from around you: leaves softly crunching beneath your feet; birds gently singing in the trees; and river running free alongside you. Looking up to the sky, the stars delicately shone above you head, the beautiful light of the moon trickling down onto the path, gently lighting up the floor beneath you and the area ahead of you. Navigating your way through the all-too-familiar forest, the crisp winter air nipped at your cheek. Gently stepping through the shrubbery, you begin to recollect on some of your child-hood memories.

The simple memories of running through this very forest with your younger brother (Jay) flooded back to your mind. Most of the time, you would be racing to your favourite spot, a small yet beautiful clearing with a log by the river. You and Jay would usually sit there for hours on end as an escape from reality. The 3-year age difference didn't stop you and Jay being best friends- you would sit and talk about anything and everything.

Now, you were 24 and Jay was 21. He moved over to Heartland when he tuned 20 so you hadn't seen him in around a year. You missed him a lot.  Although you would speak to him on the phone, it was strange not having your little brother by your side to just talk to. You knew alot about life in Heartland however like how the people in the XYZ dimension were calm and collected so it wouldn't be as chaotic and overwhelming as Synchro. You wanted to go and visit him but you had never had the chance.

You two had been planning for a while, however. Jay had a roommate who was finally moving out and so you had both decided that it was a perfect opportunity for you to go over to XYZ and live with your bother. Behind the scenes things had been all sorted out with the landlord and things. (Idk how moving works lmao) Finally, you had arranged it so that although you were the older one, neither of you were responsible for the other. You were independent adults now and so there was no need to worry too much about one another.

You were currently on call with your younger brother and had been for about two hours. He was telling you all about a duellist that he had just stared editing for while he was looking for a job in film editing. He said that he needed to go but before he hung up he told you that you should start packing your bags.

You were moving tomorrow.
