[S3 EP1] The Gauntlet

Flashback, Y/N POV

----------------------------------------

"Take a left here," Clem says. I slow down and turn left, going down a new strip of road. "After that, it should be a right. Then we'll be at the McCaroll Ranch."

I continue to drive down the road until I see a right turn. I slow down again and repeat the same process but turn right. As we turn, we see smoke in the air. "Weird." I say. As we get closer, Clem freaks out.

"Shit!" She says. I look closer to where the smoke is coming from. It's a burning building. 

"Dammit." I sigh as I speed up and quickly drive to the place's entrance. The place is burning down with gunshots going off inside. 

"We need to hurry." Clem says as she gets out of the car, pistol in hand. I quickly kill the engine and get out with my gun in hand.

As we run to the entrance, someone crawls to us. He groans in pain as his face continues to burn. "P-Please... end the suffering."

Clem aims her pistol at his head and shoots, ending his suffering.

We run to the entrance of the building. As we enter, Clem gets hit in the left shoulder with a bullet. "Shit!" She says, falling to the ground. I immediately lock my pistol onto the dude that shot her and fire into his head, killing him. I run to her side. "W-We can worry about this later, Y/N," She grimaces. "We need to get AJ!"

I help her up and continue to run through the place. As we run, we run into a group of people running from bullets. One of them stops and fires back at the shots before turning to us. "There's more of those assholes!" He fires at us, but me and Clem duck. As he goes to reload, I peak and shoot him in the gut. He falls to his knees. Me and Clem run over and hold him.

"Where are the kids?" I ask, pointing my gun at his head. 

"I-In the nursery over there," He points to the left. "But I'm not letting you savages take any more kids." As he raises his knife to stab me, Clem shoots him in the head.

We both run in the direction he pointed us to. At the end of it, there is a car blocking another room. There's enough room for us to slide in between the door and the wall so we do so.

We continue to run before running into one last door. 

"It's okay..." A woman whispers softly. "It's alright. I'm going to get you out."

Clem kicks the door open. The woman turns and draws her weapon.

"Wait! We're not here to-" Before Clem finishes, I already have my weapon drawn. I fire a bullet right into her head causing her to fall onto the floor. As she fell, she dropped a baby bottle. Clem turned to me, giving me an angry look. I ignored her as I ran over and picked up her pistol, pocketing it. I look down and grab the baby bottle.

"Catch!" I call out to Clem, throwing the baby bottle at her. She catches it. In her left hand, I see she has a key. I snatch it and look up at the four lockers. One of them has drawings on them. 

"AJ..." Clem says, walking up to me. I put the key in the hole and twist it left, unlocking it.

The door slowly opens and in it we see a crying child, cradled up in the corner. The kid turns to us, tears streaming down his face. He has blood all over him.

"AJ, it's us," Clem says. As she goes to grab him, the kid turns away crying. She approaches him again, gently touching him. He turns and reaches out for her. Clem immediately picks him up and holds him with her right arm. "We need to go, Y/N." She says. As AJ cocks his head at me, his eyes land on the dead body next to me. He starts to cry even more, making me immediately regret what I just did. I meet Clem's gaze. She is also upset with me.
