I watched the guards as they watched me. I felt so misplaced. Sixteen year olds shouldn’t have to be chained to a wall in a room filled with male guards. They all turned to look at the door when it was opened. I kept staring at the floor, the tiles were interesting at least.
“Well, well, well. Do I actually get to have my hands on the lovely Crissy Tane?” said the voice from the door.
“Don’t rejoice too soon. I’ll be out of here before you lay a hand on me, Shann.” I replied keeping my eyes to the floor.
“Aww, but we’ll be hosting a party for you!” He finally came in sight and I lifted my head to make sure he held no weapons.
“So, he did think about watching mind talk.” I smirked at him.
“Do you think the governor would be so stupid as to give you any chance of escape when we finally have you?” He asked kneeling in front of me.
I watched him carefully and saw something that intrigued me. He was the one who held the key to my chains.
“Will you be watching 24/7 outside that door, Shann? I mean, you WILL get tired.”
“You won’t see the difference between me there and me not there. Isn’t this the place you wished to never have to be?” He asked motioning with his hands to the small, plain and windowless room.
“I expected a cell with at least a teeny window for air.”
“There is a window. You just don’t see it. You know, our world is filled with demons that own not ONE same ability. Similar, but never the exact same. One of the guards here has glamour, like my son except for areas. We didn’t want you to see your escape routes.” He laughed a little as he sat in front of me. I held in a laugh as he placed his suit pants to sit cross legged. “That door, isn’t even the real exit.”
“So? I don’t expect using the typical human run off methods.” I answered.
“Didn’t he tell you that one of these big men will keep you from it?” he answered almost exasperated.
“I’m not stupid. He can turn his aura on and off. The governor needs to be able to teleport sometimes.”
One of the guard seemed to twitch at my words and I guessed that the blue-eyed, brown haired, tough looking one was a weakling with a damn strong aura.
“One more advantage to having clones of you. Alright, well, I came here to bring you to the operation room, not to chit-chat.” He stood and leaned down to pick me up.
“The Governor made it clear that if anyone was to touch her, we were to eliminate the person, Sir!” one of the guard nearly screamed. He wasn’t the strong aura one who had started staring me from the moment I had mentioned his ability.
Mr. Shann turned to the guard, looking him over.
“What’s your name, Lieutenant?” he asked.
“Lieutenant Davidson, Sir.” he replied immediately.
“Good, Davidson. What is your ability?”
The guard seemed uneasy with the question before he answered.
“The Governor doesn’t want us to say what our ability is, Sir.”
“Davidson … I’m the highest, medical researcher in this place. I know that Captain Kerris can kill any of us with a simple touch.” He pointed to the youngest looking guard, with the stunning black eyes. “Lieutenant Quaea is mute because his tongue produces a comma poison. Now, what is your ability.” he glared at Davidson.
