One stood there, beside the imposing man that Shann was but looking at her, watching the smile spread across her face, I knew I wouldn’t have to deal with Shann much longer anymore. So, the rest of the week passed in such a way. One would come into my cell to give me my black energy and wouldn’t leave before I was done, in that time, we planned. Although she was a clone, the robotics inside her hadn’t survived so she was as pure as I was and as human as I but she also knew her power. Much like me, she could be and make people invisible, but only to cameras and other technologies that were used. That was enough for her to get the others out of their cell and out of the building. Once out, they could teleport home.
At the end of the week, One started by freeing the others except for Jayke. Wayne left by teleportation first with my mom, taking her to a safe house possibly without taking her to the island. He returned quickly and came to my window with Shawn and Jessica.
“Follow us, darling.” he nearly begged me.
“Not now, I’ll be there soon though. I promise. Actually, dad, do me a favor. Once you get to the your house, activate the rebellion. Its March after all. Also, I’ll be at the perfect place for it.” I smiled, resting my hand against the window.
He nodded slowly, trusting me as a member of an army, not as his daughter for the moment. That’s what we needed, if he saw me as his daughter right now, he wouldn’t leave.
“I will see you all soon,” I whispered as Wayne teleported with Shawn and Jessica. “One, you know what they’ll do to you when they find out that you helped me.”
“I know.” she nodded, no fear on her childish face. “But I prefer dying then being a slave. I’m not even truly human you know. I’m only two weeks old on top of that.”
“Exactly, you can go on living.” I smiled hopefully at her.
“I can’t.” she smiled back turning towards a wall that she made into a window. On the other side were all my clones. Some were curled up on themselves in pain, others not even moving anymore. A few seemed years older then the governor himself. “Our life span isn’t much more then a month. The ones who look older are even younger then I am; failures I guess. So, either I die proudly at the hands of these men after saving you, or I die being a failure. Being you, you know where my choice is.”
The window went back to brick on the clones and I smiled at her. I did know what was her choice. She’d prefer to die fighting then die useless. She smiled at me and left for Shann’s side once again. After One left, I didn’t expect anyone but suddenly, Shawn appeared before me. That was impossible, Shawn hadn’t practiced his teleportation and we didn’t know anyone who could send someone away without teleporting themselves. He smiled at me non-the less and walked closer. He wrapped his arms around me suddenly and kissed my hair. His smile was the same, his arms the same, his warmth the same, soon I succumbed and started crying in his arms. He soothed me, stroking my hair softly.
“Crissy… I love you, you know that right?” he asked in a soft, hesitant whisper.
“I know you do. I do too, Shawn.” I whispered back, pulling away gently. He took that moment to capture my lips with his. My first kiss with Shawn. It was amazingly sweet and gentle.
His arms wrapped tightly around me and he walked me to the makeshift bed where he lay me down and laid on top of me. Soon enough, he was making love to me. It was soft and gentle like him, yet passionate and wild because of the time spent without even the barest touch. As I reopened my eyes to look at him, I noticed something in his hair but after blinking it was gone. But while he made love to me, the ‘something’ kept re-appearing and eventually, I pinpointed it. Once in a while, his hair glimmered as if some light was being reflected in it. As if it was extra smooth or that a dozen stars were embedded into each strand. Perhaps it was simply a part of his Fae blood that was coming out, after all, we barely knew anything about our dear Fae.
When it was over, he stood and smiled at me. He laid another kiss on my lips, whispered that he loved me and disappeared. Through all the trouble, Shawn and I would be together in the end. We would be. We had to be. There was something about Shawn that was different, that attracted me, that pulled me to him. The reason I had let him make love to me so soon even though with Jayke it had taken time even while we lived together. Shawn was special.
A loud roar took me out of my thoughts and I barely had time to hide my face with my arms before the brick wall that was also glass blew up, freeing me. I sat there, frozen for a moment. Wondering what was happening when I saw people running past my door, screaming. Again, I missed the most important item here: the horns. They all had horns and the were screaming a word I recognized well: REBEL. I smiled to myself, got up and ran into the crowd, working my way to the front of the crowd where they had all stopped to face Shann and his men.
“Crissy, I should have known you were behind all this.” he muttered, seeing me coming out of the wall of bodies.
“What do you want, I am irreplaceable for anyone. Even you wouldn’t want to kill me now, I’m too entertaining for you.” I grinned back at him.
The others behind me finally understood that the child I was, was Wayne’s child. The famous nearly pure blood demon child. A wave of awe went through the crowd and amusement started to fill them all.
“The men and women behind you will fight for their own lives, not for you this time.” spoke Shann as if proud of himself.
“I’m very much aware. And this time, I’ll fight for myself knowing that I’m not risking anyone that I care about or that can’t defend themselves.”
Suddenly, Shann searched the crowd, probably scanning with his mind in search of the other five’s thoughts in the crowd. I knew Jayke would be behind the crowd somewhere, I hadn’t released him but the explosions had destroyed all the doors, he was out for sure. Perhaps he had teleported out, that coward.
“Lets fight, Shann?” I asked, suddenly amused and anxious.
To his amazement, I brandished a dagger in both my hands. I looked behind him at the guards who were protecting him. The usual ones that I knew. I smiled at them knowing I wasn’t trained enough to fight them or had no real chance against even Shann in this fight. My smile had the result I wished for; the guards disappeared. There were too many demons for them to fight.
As soon as Shann realized he was alone, the rebels charged and I didn’t see him again. They went left and right, seeming to know the way in this maze. I was a fighter, but I had fought enough already that I simply chose a group and followed. I knew I’d find a door out somewhere. I didn’t want to teleport, I wanted to see the end of this reign.
Hours passed, I heard the rebels running around the corridors. I couldn’t pinpoint exactly where they were anymore. Eventually, they all reappeared before me, covered in blood, bruises and cuts. I couldn’t know if any were missing but I knew that the damage was done to this reign. To that, I opened the door of the building, and the exited the building with a slow but determined walk. It was done. The demons were free, there was no one to harm us left.
I left the building last, not sure where I would go. I didn’t have far to go, they were all there, waiting for me. When I saw Shawn I ran up to him, jumped in his arms and kissed him, happy to see him again. His surprise caught me off guard and I pulled back to look at him, but a smile worked its’ way on his face and he pulled me back into him for another kiss. I stayed in his arms for a while, knowing that he was covered in blood, but it didn’t matter.
Wayne, Shawn, Jessica and I went back to the house on the island where Jessica first took a shower, while Wayne prepared some food. Shawn and I followed into the shower once Jessica was out. Life was perfect. I couldn’t ask for a better life then this.
