„Those that I fight I do not hate,
those that I guard I do not love."

Breakfast the next morning was relatively uneventful. Angelina Johnson told the members of the team that she was expecting them for the selection games on Friday. Now that Oliver had graduated, they needed a new keeper. Serena was glad to have a ray of hope at least for the coming year and to finally be able to play Quidditch again.

After their new captain had left, Serena could hear Fred and George warning her classmates about the upcoming OWLs at the end of the school year, but she didn't want to think about any exams yet, because she was sure they would probably keep her busy enough when the time came.

Hermione seemed to see it differently. "OWLs are really important, it depends on which professions you can apply for," she explained seriously to her sour-looking classmates. "We then also have careers guidance to help us choose our N.E.W.T. subjects for next year."

"Do you know what you want to do after Hogwarts?" asked Harry to the group.

"Not really," Ron replied slowly. "But it would be cool to be an Auror."

"Yeahah, that would be it," his friend confirmed with a dreamy expression on his face. "What about you guys? Hermione? Serena?"

Serena looked up from her plate and merely shrugged, she honestly hadn't thought about that before. In general, she didn't know much about professions that one could pursue in the wizarding world. So far, she had only heard of Aurors, healers, teachers, shopkeepers or people in the Ministry. And none of these seemed to appeal to her.

"I don't know," Hermione replied thoughtfully. "I think I want to do something really meaningful."

"An Auror does something useful!" clarified Harry indignantly, emptying his cup of pumpkin juice in one go.

"Yeah, but there are other meaningful things, aren't there," Hermione retorted. "I mean, if I could evolve S.P.E.W..."

At the end of breakfast, Professor McGonagall handed out the timetables and all the fifth years at the Gryffindors' table groaned collectively after the mere glimpse of them. They had all the worst teachers in just one day! Binns, Snape and the new teacher, whom they all already disliked. The latter had actually managed to make herself unpopular with everyone on the very first day with her boring speech.

A little later it turned out that Binns was just as boring as before the holidays and all the previous school years. "Good morning, third years," he rattled off without motivation, unaware that an OWL class in the form of fifth years was squatting in front of him. A few students laughed, but others had already switched off their brains.
