"Well, times like that bring out the best in some people and the worst in others."
Molly Weasley was beside herself. Her cheeks were flushed and her eyes darted around the room restlessly without aim. "How can they..." she kept muttering to herself and could hardly believe what Sirius had accidentally slipped out. He hadn't even realised that Molly wasn't in on it.
"The situation at Hogwarts is tense enough as it is and then they decide to form an illegal group!" she complained as she busied herself with clearing the table where a meeting of the Order had taken place a short while ago.
"They have to fight the Ministry somehow and I don't think it's such a bad idea," Sirius interjected, trying to calm the angry mother down a little, but he only seemed to have upset her even more.
"I knew you'd see it that way, Sirius," Mrs Weasley hissed, cradling her head in both hands. "Oh, if they get caught, they'll all be expelled from school, and Ron's a prefect! His future is at risk and Fred and George's is hanging by a thread anyway!"
He looked at her indignantly. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"That you're not exactly the most responsible when it comes to rules," Molly replied smugly. "And from the looks of it, you don't really seem to care if Serena gets kicked out of school."
"At least I know she won't be stupid enough to get caught," Sirius retorted, now feeling anger slowly welling up inside him, which he tried to ignore and stay calm instead. "Besides, Dumbledore would never let anyone get expelled."
"I don't trust these times," Molly said merely unimpressed. "And that's why I'm going to tell my children not to take part in anything like that. Harry, Serena and Hermione had better think again, but I'm not their mum." During her last sentence, she gave him a look that spoke volumes. But Sirius had no thoughts of preventing his daughter and godson from learning how to defend themselves properly.
However, he didn't want to have to listen to what an irresponsible parent he was again and thought it best to remain silent for once.
"What's the mood here?" Tonks asked with amusement, but there was a hint of concern in her voice as she entered the room with Remus in tow, "Is Snape back?"
Sirius merely waved her off and hustled past them out the door before things could get messy.
He hadn't been this happy to be alone for a long time and that the members of the Order had finally disappeared after the meeting. Sirius' thoughts were churning and scattered in every possible direction. Why did life have to be so complicated... He should be used to it by now.
